Banksy liita and riot cop at Sotheby’s , by wave on May 5, 2021 13:47:22 GMT 1,
How does that work in an auction (not massively clued up on Crypto)? Bid as normal and final payment owed has an option converted into Bitcoin? Presumably seller still receives cash?
Has this been done before at Sotherby? I’m guessing there are a lot of people with a lot of Bitcoin to spend at the moment.

Damien Hirst H9 • The Virtues, by wave on Apr 16, 2021 18:17:16 GMT 1, The sun is very very powerful thing. Even in non direct light I have seen photos and art diminish tremendously. I'll bet anyone - if you put one of these in a room with sunlight, even non direct sunlight, and compare it to one under extra UV protection or stored away... you will start seeing a difference in 5-10 years.. if you even keep it for that long. I have a feeling a lot of these Heni prints will be ruined by the sun over the years. Hopefully I'm wrong. It's a really misleading format since they aren't using the top UV glass or Plexi on these, it's just too expensive. The idea is nice... you can just hang it without a frame - but there's a reason why Heni and most companies will not tell you the exact UV on them.. it's not that great. If you are going to put in a tray then why not just put glass on it at that point. I couldn't afford museum glass on any of my heni prints but I did put extra UV protection on them. They really honestly don't add that much reflection and the amount saved, not using museum but also adding more protection for the long haul, was worth it to me. If I had the money sure.. Museum all the way. My recommendation - if you do frame them. Make sure to have the framing company put a little window on the back of the frame so people can see the Hirst signed decal on the back of the print.. Great advice this....
'there's a reason why Heni and most companies will not tell you the exact UV on them.. it's not that great.'
I also asked for a % spec direct but always got a generic answer. 'It has UV protection'.
Not worth taking the chances of hanging without.

Christie's Art Auctions , by wave on Apr 1, 2021 12:05:01 GMT 1, Bit of a minefielld understanding the ‘additional’ costs of auction houses. So in the case of say Very Little Helps that originally hammered at 75k but the ‘sold’ price listed was 93,750k (BP 25%). What does the seller actually end up getting? This correct? Seller would get 67,500k? (Based in 10% seller fee on 75k) Auction house pockets the 26k+? Not a minefield really and we should have a sticky thread on the forum for this I think @silky ? When you sell at auction the defacto position is that you pay the auction house 10% of the hammer (bid) price. So if a buyer bids £50k then you net £45k and the house gets £5k. In reality this is usually negotiable as has been discussed above. When you buy at auction you bid using the hammer price. So you bid £50k for a piece. There are add ons. These vary from house to house but are often broadly similar. On a piece of £50k there would be a 25% premium to pay (commission). So that's £12.5k. In addition to this there is VAT on the commission. That's 20% of 25% (so 5% of the hammer). Some online auctions charge 1% extra. Some artists in some territories attract ARR (Artist Resale Rights) where 4% on the first 50k (Euros) of the hammer price is paid to the artist... this then slides back to a lower scale as the price of the work climbs. So, any buyer needs to factor in the fact that what they are bidding for the work is only a part of what they will pay for it. Going back to the £50k bid. In the instance cited above, for an artist that attracts ARR, an extra 35% will be payable. 34% if the auction is in a saleroom. So, £50k x 35% = £17,500. This means the buyer will need to pay the auction house £67,500 to acquire the piece and the seller will receive £45,000. I'm sure someone will let me know if I've got the numbers wrong (notwithstanding the Euro to Sterling assumption of equality on the ARR bit). Wow....so the auction house screws everyone. With the £ involved....why would they charge the seller an additional fee when they already make a large % on the buyers premium?

Damien Hirst H9 • The Virtues, by wave on Mar 4, 2021 13:57:45 GMT 1, Some saying these are ready to hang but surely they yellow/fade like any other giclee and need actual protective glass? Does dibond offer any uv protection or is it just unnecessary weight? Computer says yes. Caveat: it's not actually taking about prints but I'm guessing it applies to prints as well. www.alucoworldpanel.com/what-do-you-need-to-know-about-the-dibond-panel/ Ah...interesting so already UV protected.......hmm to frame or not to frame then......personally like the framed look but I guess standard non reflective glass should be fine.

It should be 5% but not sure what happens if you get charged the wrong tariff. I.e 20% and the courier has already pre-paid on your behalf? Also, if you’re in Uk buying from the EU, presumably now you should not be charged VAT at purchase as it’s added to your import duties no? TBH no idea since Brexit crossed the line

Paul Insect • The Reflection, Observer , by wave on Jan 15, 2021 8:37:03 GMT 1, I don't believe there have been too many, if any, of these contracts being tried in court. And I seriously doubt that publishers would start suing people, as their legal fees alone would be astronomical. The whole non-resell thing in the art world is a topic of conversation in it's own right. Should buyer's be allowed to do what they want with a purchased artwork? Should artist's get a percentage of any re-sell of their work(s)? Seems like more and more galleries, artists and curators are trying to control the whole thing.
Interesting article here about it.

Surely a right of first refusal should be an agreement signed by both parties at purchase rather than hidden in a 'silent' contract.
What happens in 2 years if you wanted to swap/trade, sell to a friend etc?
