Chevrier at Julien's Auctions, by docean on May 4, 2016 21:28:40 GMT 1, (not saying this piece is worth anywhere near that sale price)
but didn't some of her originals sell between $12k - $20k at Art Basel Miami?
are her Context original prices set lower than that?
I only own one print of hers (the XL cages released at Swizz' no commission show) but I would like to snag a few more before prices start shooting through the roof haha

NEW Shepard Fairey Print Release, by docean on Apr 6, 2016 0:12:56 GMT 1, picked one up. great image and the blue looks awesome.
I'm not concerned with Shep's output. mostly because I buy Sheps for my wall but also because great artists of the past produced boatloads of work (Picasso comes to mind first; notorious for producing a ton) and it didn't dilute their legacy.

Kaws • Man’s Best Friend • 10 Print Set, by docean on Mar 18, 2016 20:15:46 GMT 1, I only want 1. I have a friend who will stand in line to buy at 1st tier. would be taking a big risk though having to sell 9 of these, not that they wouldn't sell, but I can't just throw around $40k(?) easy like that.

Sandra Chevrier • La cage et la dignité, by docean on Mar 15, 2016 18:21:29 GMT 1, I think it's a real shame that the decision to do a time limited edition is being seen by some as a cash grab. She can't really win can she? People moan that her limited editions sell out instantly but having tried to remedy that, other (the same!?) people then moan that it's just about the moolah! Maybe it's just a sad indictment of modern times that some folk seem happy to b**ch about things rather than just getting on with life. Whether you like her work or not, she's entitled to earn a living just like the rest of us...
it's not the fact that she did an open edition, it's the price she set it at

Sandra Chevrier • La cage et la dignité, by docean on Mar 9, 2016 20:59:19 GMT 1, First of all: arguing the difference between timed edition and open edition does not change the foundation of the arguments here. at some point even open editions get taken down/stopped being printed (ex: Shep does it all the time). Any open edition is a long timed edition unless your print forever. Fact of the matter is that there is the possibility for an unlimited number of people to obtain it...
...which leads me to my second of all: they are trying to create artificial exclusivity. Every other print of hers selling out instantly has literally nothing to do with exclusivity of this one. They sell out instantly because there are a large number of buyers and very few items. (25 for the basel example since that was mentioned)
They do an open edition to give everyone a chance, yet set the price high enough that large number of people can't justify it (this thread: prime example). That's attempting to create some sort of exclusivity for a print who's very nature shouldn't be.
Love SC's art, I think it's original and the quality of her giclees really is superb, but I can't fathom how anybody doesn't see the price as distasteful.

Sandra Chevrier • La cage et la dignité, by docean on Mar 9, 2016 19:17:13 GMT 1, Well I'm not, because I would never buy this. But $290 for an open edition? C'mon. the goal of an open is to give everyone a shot and grow your fan base. but you're creating artificial exclusivity by pricing it so high. you can't have both, it just doesn't work. It's not an open edition. It's still a limited edition. Once the time period is over and they are taken off sale The amount sold will determine the edition size. A open edition is different all together for all intents and purposes it's open. 72 hours is ample time for any SC fan to pick one up.

Sandra Chevrier • La cage et la dignité, by docean on Mar 9, 2016 17:50:54 GMT 1, whether you think of it as an investment or not, you still don't want to feel as if you're getting shafted.

Sandra Chevrier • La cage et la dignité, by docean on Mar 8, 2016 15:28:23 GMT 1, the ones from Basel? I agree that the printing quality was superb. but it was only worth $1100 to me because of the low edition size of 25. There could potentially be thousands of her release today.

I love the image but I can't in good conscience pay $290 + post for a timed release. cash grab all day.
not only passing but kind of put off from buying more of her work after this
