Jasper Johns ๐บ๐ธ Painter โข Pop Art, Abstract Expressionism , by Poly Mindset on Sept 27, 2018 0:08:57 GMT 1, Just got this back from the framers That looks fabulous! The more of these JJ prints that I see all framed up, the more I see just how cool this release was/is and what a true talent Johns is. This one is still available at Ulae but I think it will probably be the next to sell out. This is just a classic look. Great job. Never really had a reason to quote myself but.....Congrats to forum member TheObserver if you were to have gotten the last one. That's five down if anyone is counting. I must agree with forum member argiebaji A+ quality, all of them.

I don't see the notification bell. Where is it?

Graffitiprints originals on paper, by Poly Mindset on Sept 11, 2018 23:30:48 GMT 1, Don't really get why some carusaders think GP should sell their own product below market value. These are Original artworks. An Original MW for 1750 quid is not expensive. Try buying a canvas for that. GP is usually spot on with their prices - so why sell for less. It's a BUSINESS. Google it if you don't understand that word. Some very nice pieces and I agree that they are actually reasonably priced for originals. I've never really understood the large and sometimes very large difference in price between canvas and paper. An original is an original no matter what it's on. The problem with GP releases are that they seem at least in the past to be sold before the release even happens. Hmmmmm. Makes you wonder doesn't it. I mean there have been so many releases that come the time they are released they're not even available and those are even larger editions than these. Good luck to anyone who tries to snag anything. Just sayin' I've never had any luck obtaining anything from GP on a release. I know some of you have tho, so best of luck.

Luc Verschuuren vs D*Face, by Poly Mindset on Sept 5, 2018 3:45:13 GMT 1, Oh wow, this is a great compilation of images. Big D*Face fan and didn't realise the extent he used other images. Thanks for sharing Now will someone post the extent of images Lichtenstein used (that weren't his) before D*Face. Obviously D*Face is just following in the same steps as Lichtenstein but he takes it a step further.

What Music are you listening to at the moment ?, by Poly Mindset on Aug 21, 2018 19:07:02 GMT 1, Just got tickets to Echo and the Bunnymen who are playing a show in LA at this beautiful Cathedral. Tho I hate driving into LA this should be a once in a lifetime show. If you're in LA on Dec. 4th you should try to attend. Here's the cathedral and a great song.

UAA Exclusive "Drop" Thread , by Poly Mindset on Aug 18, 2018 6:29:16 GMT 1, Thanks for posting that article. I was contemplating picking up that piece cause I did like "World Destruction" that he did with John Lydon back in the day. That article just make me sick tho. I don't think I'll ever listen to that record again in the same way or even at all which is a shame.

What Music are you listening to at the moment ?, by Poly Mindset on Aug 13, 2018 18:51:40 GMT 1, Professor and the Madman "Space Walrus" featuring Rat Scabies (The Damned). They played London over the weekend at Club100 and had Rat playing drums and Paul Gray(Eddie and the Hot Rods,UFO, The Damned) on Bass. My homeboy and friend of many years Alfonzo Agnew is the professor and actually is a professor of mathematics at Cal State Fullerton. This video is pretty cool tho specially for an obviously low budget production.

Blackpool, by Poly Mindset on Aug 10, 2018 0:20:14 GMT 1, I was wondering if any members made it out to Blackpool for the Rebellion Festival and art show? If so, how was it. Must have been great with all the top notch English, Irish and So. Cal. bands. Would have loved to have been there.

New RETNA release 25th at random time at pta, by Poly Mindset on Jul 26, 2018 0:35:47 GMT 1, Obviously Daveart, you are a very nice person. Me not so much. I think domestic abuse is unforgivable and refuse to support any abuser on any level at any time. Socially conscious spending has become a big thing these days on many levels from art to stocks. Personally, I don't believe in the forgive and forget approach when it comes to spending my money. I don't think posting our thoughts scares of any possible collectors but information is the most valuable commodity so maybe it helps some collectors to make a more intelligent decision. Also, there is the fact that if some people are looking at this as an investment Retna's resale market is currently fairly soft. With regards to the people with more power than us on the UAA all I can say is that there will always be whores in the word.
Thanks for the reply. hey, i'll take the compliment. i try to be nice or at least careful in postings on here.
in other sickening news for women of the world. Russia actually recently eliminated laws making it illegal to strike your spouse. What a step back in progress this little gem is. disgusting. and yet.
Just terrible and raises the question how does one define "bodily harm". What's even worse is it involves children. Funking backassward Russia.

New RETNA release 25th at random time at pta, by Poly Mindset on Jul 25, 2018 18:33:52 GMT 1, Guy beats his girlfriend and people still buy his art. This f**kingworld.
I dont know Saint. I wish things were this black and white to me .. it would make my life easier overall. Obviously no one is going to defend domestic assault. however, if you read the information about that event it came out as a mutually abusive situation - both parties harmed - both parties got their lawyers and they had it out. To that extent, at least here in America, after that you do your penance, do your time, pay your fine, and for most situations we try to get people back on track in their lives.
If Retna was beating up girls monthly or something as people try to portray here i think he would rightfully be in jail. but he isn't so, maybe this myth has grown a little larger than reality ? The basic fact that he isnt in jail means both parties moved on and that's what people do. if UAA crowd chose they could also find many pictures of Retna working with schools, children, working with Louis Vuitton, SF Ballet, galleries, etc .. so while he can be quite a clown on IG - some people who have a lot more power than use here on UAA have decided he is worth working with. On that note, I dont know that UAA needs to scare off possible collectors with four year old pictures ? worth discussing but thats my thought for this moment.

Retna Art Print Release Now Available, by Poly Mindset on Jul 25, 2018 16:55:03 GMT 1, This image works so much better with color -and still not greatest -things one could buy in same price range -no brainer pass I am not a big fan of Retna but I think it's nice to see him do something other than his usual calligraphy. I do happen to like this one and do have the funds available for it but just can't bring myself to part with the cash on an emotional level simply because of his history. I know that throughout history there have been many physical abusers of other people, mainly of women. I don't own any of their art either. Personal choice, pass.

Copyright protection of graffiti art, by Poly Mindset on Jul 22, 2018 16:52:37 GMT 1, From its inception, graffitiโs legal status as art has been blurry, but a case coming before a federal judge in California later this month may help bring it into focus. In January, Swiss graffiti artist Adrian Falkner (who signs his work โSMASH 137โ) filed a lawsuit against General Motors after a mural he had painted in 2014 on a Detroit parking garage was featured prominently in a 2016 advertising campaign for the Cadillac XT5 dubbed โThe Art of the Drive.โ GM deployed the campaign across several of its social media platforms without ever consulting Falkner or seeking his permission to do so. In their complaint, Falkner and his attorneys allege that the campaign constitutes copyright infringement and โdamages [Falknerโs] reputation, especially because he has carefully and selectively approached any association with corporate culture and mass-market consumerism.โ Indeed, Falknerโs muralโwhich was commissioned by the owner of the parking garageโwould appear to be subject to the same copyright protections as any work of contemporary art. However, late last month, GM filed a motion for summary judgment that hinges on an attempt to define the mural as a work that is incorporated into a building and thus subject to laws governing photographs of architectural works rather than artworks. โBecause [Falknerโs] mural is painted onto an architectural work it falls squarely within the โpictorial representation exemption,โ the GM motion states, referring to to code 120 of copyright statute 17. To that end, the motion concluded, โhis copyright infringement claim should be dismissed.โ In their own motion opposing GMโs motion for summary judgment, filed earlier this month, Falkner and his attorneys take issue with the automakerโs โarchitectural workโ defense. The mural, they argue, has no significant relationship to the architecture on which it was painted, which in turn has no significant architectural features. โ[The mural] was conceived of after the parking structure was built, has no relationship to the architecture, and plays no functional role,โ their July 2 motion states. โIts only relation to the architecture of the parking garage is that it is on an elevator shed.โ The stakes of the case, which is scheduled for a hearing on July 23 in Los Angeles, are potentially very far-reaching. โIndeed, if GMโs view prevailed,โ Falknerโs motion states, โall graffiti art that exists on a buildingโthat is, most graffiti artโwould suddenly be unprotected by copyright.โ Thank you for posting this. My question would be, if the mural was commissioned doesn't it then become the property of the owner of the building/parking garage? The murals that Banksy has done on walls and door have been cut out and sold by the owners of the walls and door for big money. I understand that Banksy would have to come forward to pursue any kind of lawsuit regarding ownership and obviously his murals weren't used by a corporation for advertising but it is a relative point with regards to ownership. This is very interesting on a personal level because I as well as more than a few members I'm sure have commissioned pieces. If somebody has a commissioned piece does the artist still own the rights to the image?

What Music are you listening to at the moment ?, by Poly Mindset on Jun 29, 2018 18:29:58 GMT 1, RIP Steve Soto. We've lost yet another great one. Not only was Steve a personal friend of mine but what a great musician, singer/song writer. He was in so many So. Cal. bands punk and otherwise but more than that he was just a sweet guy with a big heart. Don't know how many punk fans are on this forum but I know there's a few. This guy opened the doors for so many bands that are out there today. Huge loss for many of us.

DFace โข Going Nowhere Fast, by Poly Mindset on Jun 27, 2018 18:01:21 GMT 1, What led to the 2000+ price point? DSTQ recent auction results (2000 gbp + fees) I'm sure. "Going Nowhere Fast" is a very nice piece and smaller edition number than DSTQ. My question is how many DSTQ had pink ears which look the best IMHO out of the seven colors released? Was the edition of 250 divided up evenly between the seven color, so each color would have approximately 36?

The ยฃ50 Art Thread, by Poly Mindset on Jun 22, 2018 23:52:27 GMT 1, And "N280 Basics" (the one with the hat) is now sold out. This is what I love about the forum, the information that is shared. These should look great in a simple black frame with black matting. Keep sharing and supporting emerging artists.

The ยฃ50 Art Thread, by Poly Mindset on Jun 22, 2018 17:36:27 GMT 1, I recently discovered this guy (Guillaume Kashima). I really love his style! He has a few pieces for 25 Euros, worth a look! guillaumekashima.tictail.com/ Really like this guys work as well, kind of Calderish IMO. Love to see emerging artists and it's such a pleasure to see cool new stuff at reasonable prices. Grabbed three pieces for under $100. Now you can't beat that if you like his style, and I do. Thanks for posting.

Interesting Art on Instagram, by Poly Mindset on Jun 20, 2018 17:01:45 GMT 1, I heard Christo interviewed about this on the radio yesterday (sounds like an entertaining chap!). This is the first time Iโve seen it though. The pyramid of barrels looks pretty impressive. Itโs in Hyde Park http://instagr.am/p/BkL_d5DnFlY That looks like a lot and I mean a lot of work. I think it looks out of place tho floating in the park's lake. The bright colors clashing with the serenity of the park setting and the injection of the industrial aesthetic with a natural surrounding just looks horrid to me. Sometimes tho you never know until you see it in person. Hopefully a forum member will make it down there for a good look and a better perspective.

Tabby ๐ฆ๐น Street Art โข New Print Release , by Poly Mindset on Jun 19, 2018 19:34:23 GMT 1, Just as Banksy did with Blekโs coat tails whatโs your point? Is Tabbyโs work not innovative and thought provoking, not to mention fun? I like most of Banksyโs work as well but GTFO thinking heโs all original. He's not original, but it's his style now, whether you choose to accept that or not. And no, I don't think tabby's work is innovative. Thought provoking? Meh. Most of tabby's pieces are just visual juxtapositions devoid of any meaning. Take sound of Uzi's for instance. What thought is that supposed to provoke? Much art is defined by the interpretation of the viewer. The "Sound of Uzi's" to me provokes the thought of how much things have changed in the world. When I was a child things seemed so much simpler and more honest and hopeful. The movie "The Sound of Music" portrayed among other things the hope that I'm sure many felt during WW2 and that was the fact that they were going to escape. Some did and unfortunately too many didn't but the movie portrayed the hope. To me "The Sound of Uzi's" brings forth the realization of change and how violent our society has become on a daily basis. Seems like everybody has guns, everyday there are killings around the world. In conjunction, it reflects on the loss of innocence. How when I was young I just noticed the beautiful things in the world but as I got older I saw all the violence and hatred and guns and killings and it's a fucked up reality, but it is real. It makes me wish I could go back to simpler times but I can't. Although that may be true, upon reflection of my childhood it makes me appreciate the fact that I did get to experience a more beautiful world where things at least seemed more simple and people seemed kinder, and for that I am grateful. Now, I'm not saying that today the world as a whole is a piece of shit because it isn't. There are still a lot of beautiful things and beautiful people out there to enjoy. However, when I look at "The Sound of Uzi's" (concrete version) hanging on my wall it's a reminder to me to try to be nicer and kinder and more of a positive force in this world because most of the time that's all the control over things that you have. By doing that simple task I feel myself a combatant to the opposite polarity that exists in the world and it makes me feel better about life. Try it, it's great.

Selling art on eBay: An unfortunate experience , by Poly Mindset on Jun 15, 2018 23:39:03 GMT 1, eBay is horrible. I abandoned the site months ago. Terrible. Nothing to do with ebay. Its about yhe individual you deal with Wrong! Dead Wrong!! It is about Ebay not knowing what they're doing. They have no clue when it comes to authentication and they're too lazy to investigate what is and isn't real. They just side with the buyer if the buyer has a problem, even if it's not legit. God forbid if you sell some art on Ebay in another country because the case will be decided by Ebay hosted in that country. I personally abandoned Ebay 2 yrs ago. Tried to warn everyone about it back then and it has continued and time and time again members post their woes. I say wisen up and abandon Ebay or at least understand the risks. here was my original post from back in 2016 under "Ebay gives buyers a license to steal"
Do you want some free art. This is how it's done.
1. Find some art for sale on Ebay in another country.
2. The art's authenticity has to be questionable i.e. no COA, questionable signature.
3. Buy the art.
4. When you get it file a claim that it is counterfeit whether it is or not.
5. Have one of your friends in a gallery fictitiously document why it is fake.
6. Ebay will side with you and get you back your money.
7. This is the kicker, in cases of counterfeit art in another country Ebay will not force the buyer to return the art.
8. You get your money back and get to keep the art.
I am putting this out here because this just happened to me to the tune of $2400. I sold a Lichtenstein Leo Castelli signed poster along with a rare Lichtenstein Raisonne' (worth $1800). The buyer claimed and documented that the poster was not authentic. How he did this I do not know as I am not privy to this information. It seemed very authentic to me but I never had it verified. In the end Ebay sided with him, refunded his money, charged my account and is letting him keep both items. In this case Ebay should force the buyer to at least send back the Raisonne' as it was not the point of contention.
I am also putting this out here for all the members on this forum who use Ebay to sell art. Beware of selling to buyers in a country other than your own. It is risky and you will not be backed up by Ebay. As a seller you have very little protection and Ebay will wash their hands of it and not back you up. Good luck and f**k Ebay.
