Goldie's portrait of the Queen, by Mark Perronet on May 28, 2012 17:37:32 GMT 1, Goldie, a monarchist, who would have thought...(perhaps hoping for an honour sometime down the line) Where's the humour/ bile/ anger? We really dont need any more pics of the queen or any of her family unless they are making a point about her unelected money sucking status, the state provides us with plenty of pics that idolise her/them.

Goldie's portrait of the Queen, by Mark Perronet on May 28, 2012 17:51:16 GMT 1, she is unelected and sucks money from the taxpayer, that is her status, not elegant prose I grant you but true.

Finally someone has raised this.
Why 'urban' artists are painting loving images of the Queen is beyond me. I was under the impression that the majority of the artists involved in the street art 'scene' were anti-monarchy and anti-imperialist from the subject matters in their work.
Burn it.

Goldie's portrait of the Queen, by Prescription Art on May 28, 2012 18:00:33 GMT 1, I'm not a fan of the artwork, but I do like the Queen & support the monarchy.
'She's Unelected'. Yes, she is unelected. However who would you like to see voted in as president in an alternative system? Tony Blair? Boris Johnson? Alan Sugar?
The Queen is duty bound to do her best by the country, and that I believe she does. She doesn't spend her time in office planning her autobiography, getting directorships with large corporations, or taking bungs for arms deals.
'She sucks money from the taxpayer'. This is debatable. I believe that the Royal Family bring in more money to the country than they cost. However either way I don't think that everything can be brought down to a cost / benefit analysis. I like the quirky facets of British life that make us different from other countries. I would not like to see Buckingham Palace converted into another branch of Westfield.
I used to be a republican, but over time have come to realise that the alternatives are shit.

Please... the Royal Family tout arms all around the world and represent the selling of them (Andrew, fourth in line to the throne).
Does the best for her country? She has no choice otherwise she would be ousted, she can't starve people to death anymore (openly) but she is certainly living of the proceeds of the biggest genocides in history.

Goldie's portrait of the Queen, by Mark Perronet on May 28, 2012 18:13:32 GMT 1, Oh Prescription Art... you disappoint me! No of course I dont want any of those jokers but I object to being a subject of someone by her accident of birth, it is an anachronism in the 21st C.
Best by the country....like entertaining human rights abusers because they happen to be fellow royals?
She may contribute to tourist income but what tourist would not come to the UK if we scrapped the Royal Family..
I would like to see Buckingham Palace converted to affordable housing for low paid workers and a large screenprinting studio and gallery....

Goldie's portrait of the Queen, by twist65 on May 28, 2012 18:59:16 GMT 1, haha I love all the a-level laptop anarchist nonsense coming out here!
and apparently to be a "street artist" you have to be a total hardcore anti-royal/capitalist anti-everything. its the rules. just like people like k-guy, how hardcore, rad man fight the power....

Not the criteria. But it is certainly prevalent in street art.
Celebrating a murderous regime is just weird. Anyway that's just my opinion.

Goldie's portrait of the Queen, by jonnyx on May 28, 2012 19:23:35 GMT 1, Great to see so many Artists doing pieces like this for the Queen
no it's not it's utterly bewildering and i for one am totally fed up of it.
whenever I see an icon of class, wealth and privilege being used in this completely toadying, forelock-pulling way in any sort of art (except 'fine art' portraiture, i guess - at least that's contextual) i feel like puking my ring.
it shows both a paucity of imagination ("oh it's the jubilee, i know i'll knock out an image of the queen"), and also some kind of misplaced feudal feeling of total respect for a figure born into power. fair makes me sick, and no mistake.
anyway. rant over. carry on.

Goldie's portrait of the Queen, by Agent Provocateur on May 28, 2012 19:43:24 GMT 1, Well said Mark, rotten, jonny... twist it's not exclusive to street artists and anarcists this bewilderment at the anachronism (word stolen from Mark, cudn't spell it!) that is the Royal family. Admittedly I have a sub-gcse eloquence verbalising my disgust at the strange arrogance of privilege still endemic in our society... but give me some time and I might be able to string a few words together, 'fraid the butler's still ironing the evening paper tho so it may take some time, damn lackys!

Goldie's portrait of the Queen, by Deleted on May 28, 2012 20:24:29 GMT 1, Anyone fancy swapping places with the Queen, hundreds of engagements every year where you are forced to smile and loosely socialize with people that might make you, to paraphrase 'puke your ring up'?
And you get to retire when you die. Touch?

Yeah, shocking. And those Princes, and the rest of them. Must be terrible... we really should pay them more for all that trouble they go to ! Who'd want to play Polo, and have to eat all that rich food, and hang out with all those celebs at those fancy bars, and stay in the best hotels, and have to spend all that cash ??

Yep, poor things. I'm baffled by the UK to be honest. Bullingdon Club running the country, racist misogynists like Jermey Clarkson become household names and are given newspapers columns, the proud working class riven apart and labelled as scrounging chavs, the middle class royally ripped off by bankers and edgy street culture celebrating Royalty whilst being monitored by more CCTV cameras than any other country on earth.. Very weird from an outsiders perspective.
