i think the the problem was that half the Hirst prints were sold before the gates were open to the public The Turps launch was a complete mess and I really hope they've learnt from it. What's the point of queuing when the stall holders seemed to be able to buy most of them first? A Harland Miller print would be great.

Its a boot sale - traditionally the other vendors get in before the doors open at car boot sales - shame they were pretty much all turned around for a quick profit

I seem to remember the organisers wanting a mess I quote " we want mayhem and running through the gates it will make good photo"
To be fair it was Marcus Harvey (turps) saw how long that people have queued for and gave out the first 20 tickets to people so that they at least got what they wanted.

Yes they wanted chaos but no one was expecting the thirty odd people who slipped into the queue behind those with tickets who strolled in from stalls inside the venue putting those like me who were in the second wave out of contention. After being in the queue for so long we knew who was in and who was out... WRONG.

Previous Art Car Boot Fairs have been really exciting, fun days out despite always being pretty manic upon entering, that's just the way it is, but last years event was badly organised from the start. Hope for much better this year.

Not sure about being bad organised, I was one of the 13th in the Q and I have to say Marcus Harvey came out about 5 or 6 am and issue tickets to the first 15 or 20 not sure the exact number. The problem start after that when a few flippers &members that got there after 6 am jumped the Q. Once the 15 or so went in we got what we wanted, after that all hell broke loose so not sure what more could turps banana team could have done better imo.
The thing is pitch your tent or camping chair early, have a bunter with few good people in the Q, I for sure will be doing that again.

I cant believe people jumped the que, especially when at least 40 or more were in the que by 6am who I cant see as letting people go in front of them, not sure how you come to that conclusion MJ, the only people i can see as jumping the que were those that were already inside, before the gates were opened to the queing public. I will be doing it again this year and look forward to meeting everyone again.

I did see a couple of q jumpers just after a couple of tickets were issued after me, but I have to agree with you James once inside loads of stall holders or their helpers cause most of the s**t. Hope to meet u there and have a few cans with the lads.

I queued from about 8pm on the Saturday night last year and there were already 20 or so people in front of me....it was disheartening to see 15 or so tickets get handed out by Marcus Harvey & Helen knowing I would then have to take a chance with the crowd.....LOADS of people jumped the queue when they finally let the people behind the ones with tickets in....luckily I got what i queued for!
Hopefully better this year if there is something worth queuing for - HM?!

Hope to meet u there and have a few cans with the lads. I was about 30th in the queue and didn't get a ticket. Once inside I was told there was more than one entrance and people were coming in from every which way; not sure if that was true though but it seemed like it. I guess letting the store holders buy prints is like letting the gallery staff buy them at a queue like Stik last week. It seems unfair as it's not a level playing field as their in first.

As far as I'm aware the organisers of the event promote the idea of 'hunting out the goodies'... E.g. They want a mad rush and hence the naming 'Boor Fair'. I don't think they advocate queuing to get in and prefer the concept of it working literally like a boot fair.
Luckily tickets were issued for Turps. It would have been extremely frustrating if you queued 20+ hours to get nothing.
Anyway, wasn't Harland Miller meant to be there last year and pulled out for some reason?
Look forward to seeing what Keith Tyson produces.
All the same, regardless of artists it'll be a good event.

I hadn't planned the impromptu spraying session and due to lack of sleep didn't give a rat's a**e at the time Sacked ;D T'was a quality marathon q'ing session MJ, with yourself, Skitchy, James, Jusdeep and now the Mrs Jusdeep (two weeks ago ) plus names I've forgotten, we had a cracking time (and yep that Lebanese was the mutts nuts!). It only got a bit tricky in the morning when the Art Car Boot's spokesperson laid out the plan for when they opened the gates... 'Yeah just run in, we want it to be mad...' or something like that! Strain began to show but when the tickets emerged calm was restored. Queue jumping is s**t, and I really feel for people that waited all that time, never got a ticket, and missed out on what they wanted. Tbh I was so goneski by then I never noticed the pushing in behind us or the stall holders getting in the Turps queue. Very badly organised! But the icing on the cake was when the Turps crew realised they'd handed out the wrong print to the people that had tickets for the Hirst. It wasn't rocket science, they'd put a different coloured sticker on each envelope to denote which artists print was in it, but I still got another random print. In the end they had to chase round the whole Car Boot trying to find the people that should have had the Hirst and rectify their mistake! A classic 24 hours ;D

Looking back at it it's hilarious HRE, but I was a grumpy arse by that time and the humour was lost on me ;D... pretty sure some people would have left without checking their envelope and got a surprise when they got home!
MJ, can I have the guest bedroom in the east wing?
