Repeating the same thing all over the nooks and crannies of a city can work. But for some graffers its hard to transition to gallery wall. Repetition like this shows him up a bit and looks thoughtless.
what’s next for Stik then, more stick men? Iron stick men that costs lots of money that are just stick men. How about one wearing a dress, stick woman? hype hype hype. just because it takes 15 minutes to paint a piece does not mean it’s not a master piece... these are for sure not master pieces!
I think the Dulwich project will be a good gauge of where he might be able to take his work in the future. If he can make the reinterpretations of the old masters stik stick, I feel he's onto a winner. As for now, they're light hearted, colourful, emotive and make me smile - I'm happy with that. Most people who see his Stik figures - certainly people I've shown my pieces to - seem to have the same response which explains the rise in popularity as he's getting more exposure. I think boatyyy summed it up quite well in her earlier post, they speak universally.
And, now for something completely different...
Has anyone else noticed that the red on the "Walk" print isn't the most reddish red? Mine has a definite pinkish tone, almost coral pinky.
I took a picture of mine next to the show catalogue, (which is postbox red) for comparison, I took it about two hours ago, so the light wasn't the best and it doesn't really register...
A graffiti artist, who was living on the streets just two years ago, is now a celebrity favourite with his latest collection selling out in nine seconds.
Known only as Stik, his work often fetches thousands of pounds, and is owned by the likes of Sir Elton John, Brian May and even the Duke of Kent.

I have enjoyed all the work I have seen by Stik in the streets and at festivals. Without doubt brightens the place up, and brings a smile to the face of most that see it. Good luck to the fella. Here are a few pics I have taken over the last couple/few years (cant remember how long)
Great pics. I know everyones mentioning Haring but for me I liken him the most to Invader - simplistic, wall friendly idea that everyone can relate to. Kid friendly, wife friendly, but to the "hardcore" his longevity relies on how much he gets up. Read earlier on the thread he does maps too. By its nature is quite restrictive in how to move on, Invader has that problem too, but wonder if he had this much negativity in the early days? Hope he uses his earnings to hit further afield, don't get to Shoreditch much..
^strange you mention the artist Invader - don't have any works by the artist - but have a couple of rubik cubes; monkeying around on this site and seeing some of the attention his/her works get got me messing about with those cubes at my desk to see if i can come come up with some of the Invader designs - no easy thing... made me appreciate Invader's stuff more... think will look to buy a piece, soon... silly, i guess it takes me some time to appreciate some artists works and the thinking behind it...
Oh god here it goes again. Dont worry, one day as many people will like your stuff as stiks. Then they will also be willing to shower you in the same amount of money as they currently are him.

And yes you can definatly assume im an alienated potential client of yours. I would have quite liked a piece of your simplistic (i think you know why i make that point) art but to be honest, you come over as a cock. And i dont really fancy thinking that as i look at my art.
Keep it up mate, im sure there are more to fall from your potential client list.
And before you say it, i dont give a toss that you dont care i wont be buying your art either.
Maybe. I don't know. But if I search for "Stik" and "Street art" on Flickr the first Stik figure is from 2008. There are some older tags by Stik, but not figures. Can you show me any really old Stik figures?

There's so many things I could say about some know it all t**t who's been into 'street art' for 5 minutes and doesn't know s**t from rice kris pies... but I shan't, instead I'll leave you to waste your money and your breath...
BTW I really like the figures as street art. And they are nice enough to brighten the home. But is it "art" and will he be able to have a career with only the figures?

You know what Silky, it pisses me off that 'artists' don't seem to be allowed to pass criticism, god knows I get enough of my own, which is fine... But I've never said anything about stik other than his stickmen aren't worth the prices this gallery are charging for them! Which I categorically stand by.
There's no history and I remember seeing the first stik pop uo around shoreditch circa 2009 / 2010 so where's the history, where's the dialogue? where's the background? He's never painted outside Shoreditch as far as I'm led to believe...
Someone else posted an earlier version of his stickmen... not me!
and this moron assuming I'm hoping to be as successful as this stik guy has about no clue what he's on about and is probably stik's cousin or works for the gallery or something.
