More about Sarah Joncas: Sarah Joncas was born in 1986 and grew up within both Hamilton and Niagara Falls, Ontario. Her interest in the visual arts developed at an early age, starting with the dedicated drawings of dinosaurs and lizards. Eventually the study and enjoyment of working from existing images stirred up the need in Sarah to create images of her own; ones that could reflect the world, yet also appease the personal feelings/ideas that she herself maintained. With this, her direction changed gradually from the world of animation, towards a path in fine art.
Sarah recently graduated from the Ontario College of Art and Design's BFA program. She currently resides and works out of Toronto, Canada.
More about Caia Koopman: From the land of surf and sea, Caia Koopman has emerged as one of lowbrow’s preeminent female artists. With a well-rounded background from her years spent obtaining her BA in Fine arts from UC Santa Cruz, to her time spent in the skateboarding and snowboarding scenes, Caia’s environment has both molded and provided an eclectic background that makes her paintings come to life. With her fine detail for beauty, inclinations toward nature, and collectiveness of the female spirit, Caia has quickly become one of the quintessential artists fully encompassing the elegance, strengths, and vulnerabilities of femininity.
Her work is alluring and has a hint of whimsy. It delves into the fascination of women, in both our conscious and subconscious ideals of the feminine role in society. Caia consistently submerses herself in subject that matter that is ingrained and full of cultural connotations. Caia’s work is infused with a variety of cultural, political, environmental, sociological, and dreamscape references. Her influences serve as an amalgamation bringing her world to life through deliberate references and reverent imagery, with the finished work deriving strength and beauty from the artist herself. Her playfulness in her brush strokes is a constant struggle with the reality and solidity of the paint itself which comes across in her work as complimentary forces bringing together a gorgeous and powerful masterpiece.
IN OUR PROJECT ROOM THIS JUNE: We're also excited to announce the debut solo show from David Cooley that will be taking place in our project room.
David Cooley 'Dashing In Headlong'
Reception with the artist: Sat, June 16th 5-9PM in our project room
David Cooley was born in North Hollywood, CA in 1978, and currently lives in Santa Barbara, CA. He's been creating art ever since he was a youngster. Now he's creating intricate multi layered, multi dimensional mixed media paintings using mostly acrylic, resin, spray paint, pen and fabric, to achieve an effect in and of his own. He's always been inspired by the idea of creating something that's previously only existed in thought and making something that's tangible, with the intent to have an impact on others, weather it's thought provoking, fun, or just aesthetically pleasing.
