Where is the vitriol you speak of in this thread?

Have a read of what Brian Sewell nearly ALWAYS says and you might get an idea what vitriol really is

My comments were based on being around for a bit (not by any stretch as much as many members) and seeing images released/sold that look a bit familiar

Samples are one thing, remixes are a bit different imo

Agreed everyone copies everything/takes inspiration from others, but sometimes it's a bit obvious and the timeframes are also very obvious

Of course a good forum is about everyone expressing their opinions, but its also very fine balancing act
You must make new members and of course Artists feel welcome to post, otherwise nobody is posting anything worth expressing an opinion about.

I like how people on this forum think it's okay to mindlessly praise art, but when art is mindfully criticized then there is a massive problem. I hate this philosophy that reality should be treated like a kindergarten classroom. The work isn't good, and people shouldn't be criticized for expressing honest disapproval, especially when it's accurate. Spare me your arguments about subjectivity--there are objective standards against which anything concrete like this piece can be measured. The image is poorly composed. The humor is as cliche as that of a sitcom. And the image can be improved, but who cares: Art is for expressing original thought in an honest way, like poetry, where the composition resonates with the emotion from which it manifested: This piece states nothing original, in both creaitivity and wit: It's trite.

Let me explain that again.

If an Artist posts about their new work, and 50% of people like it and 50% don't like it But the people who don't, get so aggressive and forceful with their opinions that that Artist never post on the forum again is that a good thing?

Slowly, Artists, Galleries stop posting

What those people end up doing is only allowing people to talk and post about Artists that they like A good forum should be welcoming to all opinions.

I really like this image by Martin But I also agree with what some other people have said about that it could have been done better. I think it needs a bit more space around it

All these well saids have clearly made me see the light Of course young artists should be positively showered with praise goodwill and of course investment cough sorry money for their art no matter what state it is in or what it looks like otherwise how on earth would they ever learn or progress or think for themselves and create a masterpeice Of course this is what happened to Banksy he took a photo of his family coal scuttle just after he tagged it back in 86 and offered it up as a new print limited run of 200 for £200 after all why not Warhol sold a few prints so why shouldn't he he's an artist after all they're all just the same all just artists all worth the same amount of cash when it gets chucked down onto a screenprint Where would he be without all the good people of forum telling him no telling the world how good he is and how much more the print they bought is worth now and defending him tooth and nail against allcomers who might have a thought of their own and a modicum of taste and see what the coal scuttle tag was which was crap and tell him to go away and come back when he's made a queen vic or a barcode or a happy choppers all of which are excellent and worth far more than when i bought them four years ago so if anyone wants one they should contact someone else as i'm not selling but of course i might sell at the right price which is generally 2.3 times more than what i paid for plus inflation and 23.9 APR

so in a thread about some trite, tired screenprint of a street piece priced at £200 in a limited edition of 10 pieces the people critisizing the work for being derivative are the ones that stand for 'everything they are supposed to be against'? really?

what are we supposed to be against anyway?

interesting that it seems as though we are thought of as a collective personality that has some kind of will to rail against anything based in the establishment.

I'm going out later so really need some pointers as to what i should be fighting on the grimy streets of South London.
