Hi, First I have to tell you that I'm totally noob in framing. I would like to have advices on framing a painted subway map. I find it hard to do because subway maps are folded. Should I use something like a thick cardboard in the back of the frame? In the end I would like to have something smooth but I'm afraid it could damage the map. Do you think it's ok to use this ikea's frame? www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/30132527/Any advices/ideas welcome Thanks for your help! Best, Guillaume

Thinking of getting something special done from MFM, something with a metal frame. I am definitely getting a backing board but not having anything stuck down!. I look forward to suggestions and some ideas from the crew here! found this whilst on my search for ideas..

Hi Guillaume, for framing stuff withe creases etc, I personally like the acrylic magnetic frames, so it flattens the print, but a lot of the purist's on here will say that you should never let the print touch the glass/ acrylic, but I'm sure, for it to damage the print would take a long time. I have framed stuff like this with no ill effects.

Thanks Sanchorockin78, I've framed one subway map already. I'm not totally satisfied with it but I'll post a pic tonight if it can help. I'd love to see framing works from experimented members as well. I think it's not so goof for the artwork (paint and marker) and the subway map itself (It may rip the map). For me the folds are part and parcel of works like this I definitely agree with that. Anyway you can't get rid of the folds unless you use an iron

I didn't found it on the pictures. Haven't found any more on the KR piece, looks good tho. As for your framing, I am looking at showing the whole of my map off and may well float it as the signature is in the corner and i like the idea of highlighting it's a pieced map...

You have no idea how envious of this map I am dude... it's beautiful beautiful thing. I'm guessing it came from Dirty Pilot, I'm tempted for 1 or 2 of the small card drawings now all the best maps have gone?
