Shepard Fairey is set to be on 'The Simpsons'.
Fairey, the man behind the Barack Obama 'Hope' poster, is cast to play himself in the March 4 episode of the long-running series.
The episode focuses on a certain noted graffiti artist in his own right, Bart Simpson, as he plasters unflattering images of Homer all over town. But things get interesting when Bart and his trusty sidekick Milhouse get caught by Fairey and a few of his cohorts.
Fairey explains that being a part of 'The Simpsons' wasn't just fun, but it was an honor.
"Part of being on 'The Simpsons,' [is] you're being honored as a reference point in culture," Fairey says. "But you also can't be too sensitive about that part of culture being made fun of...There's irony that comes with something outsider becoming insider. And they do a great job of examining that."
As fans of the show know, Bart has done his fair share of tagging in the past under his handle 'El Barto'. But it's not just this that makes Fairey explain why Bart is his favorite character on the program.
"He's mischievous and snarky and tries to use his wit and charm and resourcefulness to wiggle his way out of bad situations," Fairey says. "I think anybody who does street art can relate to that way of doing things."
