Its a nice idea making Space Invaders from rocks from outer space. Are you talking about plagiarism with reference to Invader or the legendary coin-op?

Taking a balanced view Invader did not invent the space invader and is unlikely to have been the first to use it as art. He is more synomonus with using tiles (or now waffles) for his art and I dig the use of a meterorite to form these invaders. I do think the media used adds something to these, but I wouldn't buy one for this sort of money

agree with craigf
Edit : these look far better than the 2-dice (real scale) meteor sculpture I saw at FIAC 2011

search: invader /art on ebay. There is more than enough out there not to worry about plagerism.
I like these especially as they were made from real meteorites.

I think if we applied the 'don't copy' rule then Blek would be all over Banksy like a rash...

I think these are truly amazing! well the use of materials and the relevancy of the characters at least plus it's the title of an art piece, and installation... the other is the name of the artist, what he calls himself.. his logo. "Space-Invader" because he's coming to invade your space with his art just my thoughts

Quite cool looking but you'd need a whole load of them for your wall to make them look right.

These are brilliant!
Think of them in relation to Egyptian relics and carvings of what was the culture in their time etc... They were made out of stone millions of years old and are people and museums collect and pay very nice money for them.
These are modern relics made out of stone millions of years ago carved into references of the culture of our time, but from stone that came from SPACE, part of another world, not just down the road from someone's house!
I think it's beautiful idea.

Just to be clear : I di NOT accuse the artist of "plagiarism" I was wondering what people though, hence the "?" ;-) I like those too eventhough wouldn't pay that price for such a small piece... By the way, Andipa still had some very beautiful Banksy canvas, very nicely framed ... and very expensive as you would expect there ;-)

By the way, Andipa still had some very beautiful Banksy canvas, very nicely framed ... and very expensive as you would expect there ;-) well they bought them secondary and have had them ever since. Funny you should mention their canvas framing - the GWB dip in there makes my blood boil. £1/4m price tag and yet framed completely wrong - horizontal rather than on the diagonal. The bottom of the string is lower than her hand. AAAGH

Hope that's not £7.5k each! As others have said he's not the first and won't be the last to use them, it's not as though he created them. As long as people do something a bit different with them I don't see a problem.

He acknowledges his source The Space Invader Game 1978.
At $7.5 K not likely to see many on the street either. Think they are quite coll but if I took one home and told the Mrs I paid $7.5K pretty certain I'd be homeless and she would be calling the lawyers. Divorce on the grounds of insanity!!!

Given it's made from a quite rare material (meteorit !) it is certainly 7.5K each. Don't forget that an original invader mosaic ranges from 4000 to 8000... and it's made from glass or resin from earth, not from outer space... Funny how the expensiveness of the art is finally only a perception of artist's fame, nothing else. If it was by Koons or Hirst, people would probably say, "wow, only 7.5K, quite affordable for a unique work ! " ;-)

The story I heard about Heywood is that he was actually making the invader guys before the man I associate with them, Invader, was. I do not know if that is factual, although I know he is a much older guy than Invader appears to be.
Edit: Afrika is correct, I was thinking of Feckner.

They are ok, but the creator certaintly isnt an artist. Poor choice of images, the formula one are just naff! He even stole the name from Invader who established: www.rubikcubism.com/ years earlier!
