Born in 1974 to thespian parents of Baths natural Theatre company Rose's Mum and Dad created a magical, inspirational environment in which nothing was impossible and everyday was an adventure. After this artistic and creative childhood, Rose went on to gain a BA (Hons) in Fine Art at Bretton Hall in Yorkshire, then worked for Damien Hirst for 5 years as well as performing all over the world in the Naturals herself. Often seen in the streets with her mum and dad, in naked costumes or doing a national no smiling protest. As a result, her visual work now is diverse and vibrant with a strong sense of playfulness and interaction. She also known with as her alta ego The Art Tart, here she dressed in leopard skin and dripping in diamonds. She plays with stencils and the female image as well as bonkers stage acts. Uniting burlesque with graffiti! Rose is renowned for her walk about live drawing at weddings and events and also her room drawings, her “Popayspectives’! With Upfest in the midst of an eight leg festival tour our good friend Rose Popay will be taking over the gallery space with a retrospective look at the last 20 years of her artistic endeavours and performances alongside some fresh new work from this whirlwind of craziness! I am still yet to get any of it. The spin paintings look great as did when me and friends did them years ago at a kids event, its just a technique, the fact R did them for Damien is neither here nor there, they don't really push any boundries no matter who does them...imo of course, each to their own...and for that reason I am out, sorry
