POW - An apology, by Neate Michael on Aug 30, 2011 11:11:33 GMT 1, Dear forum users
Last week, I posted a thread entitled POW. I had recently visited their site and concluded that the standard of the prints they have recently released have been below average.
I wrote this in a way that was designed to provoke but I used swear words, for which Silky banned me from the forum for 24 hours.
I am really sorry my swear words offended you all. And I hope none of you other boys and girls swear, it's not big and it's not clever. Learn from my mistakes.
I very much enjoyed the debate that flowed from the thread and there were some interesting points made, none of which used swear words.
Anyway, once again, my sincerest apologies
Michael
ps. Although I apologise for the unjustified use of swear words, I do not apologise to POW. Their recent releases have been below par and have not sold out. If it wasn't for Banksy and a few other "stars" one wonders how long they would stay in business for.

yeah and if it wasnt for POW, i wonder how you or anyone else would have got access to banksy works, which has paid for some peoples mortgages, also bought cars, paid for holidays, luxury items, even paid off loans, credit card debts.
I would also go far to say, how much of your collection and many others, has been influenced by the art that POW brought to you/masses.

POW - An apology, by barnsy on Aug 30, 2011 11:49:34 GMT 1, It really annoys me when people slag off POW, they have brought us some great art over the years. In general, they always try to be really fair to everyone when a release happens. We all know that they will be the best thing since sliced bread when they is a new Banksy release pending, and the worst after the event when people do not get what they want. It is all par for the couse and I think everyone on this forum should show them some respect for being the forerunners in producing great urban art prints, and for being very hospitable when you pay them a visit. I for one, love what POW is all about. Peace

Common sense at last ^ It makes me wonder if the people doing the banning get out much ? Its funny that this site promotes criminal damage, yet 'colorful' language if forbidden

POW - An apology, by Neate Michael on Aug 30, 2011 14:34:38 GMT 1, Genuinely my jaw hit the desk when I learned of my ban.
Anyway, so long as Silky is consistent with his banning for bad language, I have no problem with it.
But I tend to agree, that defacing property is a far worse crime than a few swear words, and an opinion that seems to have been divisive... (which was the whole point of the post in the first place)....
I really want to drop a few c bombs, but I like this forum, and have met some genuinely good people on it... Not to mention the fact that I may need to sell or buy a print in the future, so I shan't wind up Mr Silky on purpose as tempting as it is.
I also wish Banksy prints had paid for my cars or holidays as another poster stated.... I only have two in my collection (colour trolleys and love rat) and they are staying on my walls.
Genuinely my jaw hit the desk when I learned of my ban.

POW - An apology, by Neate Michael on Aug 30, 2011 14:45:50 GMT 1, Yes I did. But it does not mean I have to love their other print releases. And nor do I wish ill upon them. I just think that the prints they have released this year have been a bit rubbish.

So what does that make you. Hardly intelligent
Everyone is entitled to their opinion thought that was the point of this. Or do all posts have to spend time calling people names etc

POW - An apology, by Deleted on Aug 30, 2011 18:29:54 GMT 1, swearing is just words... i for one wasnt offended by your comments because im a grown up. Common sense at last ^ It makes me wonder if the people doing the banning get out much ? Its funny that this site promotes criminal damage, yet 'colorful' language if forbidden
Innit!
We're all adults and "colourful language" is part of everyday life and has played a part in how our language has evolved. English is a living language and a lot of that evolution has to be put down to people taking the occasional liberty and using it creatively. Shakespeare anyone?
As for the the original thread last week, I say well done NeateMichael. I enjoyed the emotive language and the frustration it conveyed - made me think and laugh out load - and with this being a forum you should be able to air your views without recrimination and bans being handed out. As stated in an earlier post on this thread it provoked some good debate and alternative views other than those of the POW fanboys, which is never going to hurt and on a forum such as this should only be considered healthy. If I only got to read benign/asinine post' stating "love it", "stunning", "great stuff", I for one wouldn't be reading so often. I come here for the lively (and sometimes informative) debate, as well as release information and the occasional bit of scandal/gossip, and that is why I keep coming back.
Personally, I think POW are doing a good job - I posted a reply in last week's thread supporting their position. I copied some of the text from that post...
"...with the amount of supposed "Street Art" around, I would imagine it's increasingly hard to find a true talent amongst the flotsam and jetsam in a sea of wanna-be's. I think they (POW) do quite a good job in that field. If you imagine them as an independent record company they would be the equivalent of someone like XL Recordings - a label that started off with stable of good underground artist (think The Prodigy, SL2) controlled the output to maintain quality (for the most part) and have a sound A&R department that have taken time to nurture their artist and invest in newer talent whilst given them time to develop. They successfully moved from their niche market (hardcore/dance) and helped break many new artist/genres (Dizzee/Adele/White Stripes/BasementJaxx/Friendly Fire) to the mainstream and have major artist (Beck, Damon Albarn, RadioHead/Thom Yorke) coming to them for their main output and side project releases as well as feeding artist to the major labels and maintaining more "left field" acts like Signur Ros and M.I.A. Even though every release doesn't hit, they have faith in their artist' craft and stay with them. Their formula of balancing commercially/artistically successful acts has worked excellently for them as after 20 years, XL Recordings are probably the most successful independent record label in the world and have an artist roster that I am sure is the envy of many of their industry peers. It's an easy comparison to make. Think where POW are after 10 years and where they could be going..."
Taste in art, as with music, is totally subjective and "in the eye/ear of the beholder". Without the galleries/labels taking the occasional gamble we'd all have a lot less shit to pick and choose from, and without POW taking the initial leap in to the then unknown we probably would not have the very forum on which this discussion is now taking place. If this forum isn't the place to freely state your views and take part in debate I am not quite sure why we're all here.
Two final points, I am not an employee of XL and certainly not a POW fanboy, but I do appreciate/respect the work they do and their place in their respective fields ;D
Neate Michael FYI "gash" was the word "de jour" for three days running over the bank holiday weekend and a source of some good jokes between me and my friends. Thanks. LOL.

POW - An apology, by johnnyh on Aug 30, 2011 18:57:16 GMT 1, A side from the right or wrong. I am really not sure that most people would class that as using language creatively.
Another slight point but important is as per above. Because I made some positive etc comments about POW does that make me a sycophant.
All boards have moderators regardless of whether you agree or not.
So interesting point raised but completely lost due to it becoming embroiled in a language debate as opposed to a POW debate. Maybe that's a better lesson than the ban.
Johnny

POW - An apology, by Neate Michael on Aug 31, 2011 8:30:44 GMT 1, If POW is XL recordings does that mean Adele is Banksy? I would like to think that Basement Jaxx would be Lister, and that Insect would be the Prodigy.... Not sure who Tyler the Creator would be? Micallef maybe...
As for the word gash, one can never use it too much ;D
Which reminds me, I must see The Inbetweeners movie this weekend...

POW - An apology, by Deleted on Aug 31, 2011 20:58:04 GMT 1, I don't think that Adele is Banksy as she griped about paying ยฃ4mio in tax and there doesn't seem to be any synergy in ideals?
Most people on here (if not all?) have had some benefit from POW and the art they have printed but that doesn't really excuse their piss (oops) poor seasonal treatment of good men and goodwill towards them.
