Even Santa's Ghetto was pretty bad... The Learning to Fly print being the exception.
But the wank they toss out these days is utter gash!
And Laz ain't much better.
Sort it out guys....

POW, by Happy Shopper on Aug 25, 2011 16:54:42 GMT 1, It's tough because they usually can't win whatever they do. They try to break new artists, but it's not always what people want. Sometimes the artists are great, but someone chooses a bad image for the print (all subjective)
I also think they're often ahead of the curve on many artists. Todd James and Steve Powers being good examples of artists/prints I just didn't understand, but now wish I'd snapped up!

POW, by johnnyh on Aug 25, 2011 17:27:57 GMT 1, I think POW constantly look for new artists apart from just doing big artists which is good. Not always my taste but that's a good thing.
There are plenty of places for big guys to get stuff out. Like what they are doing for the Brazilian and SouthAmerican artists in trying to popularize and break them.
Laz cannot say as based here so do not visit. However will be interested in their pint shop concept in LA which I think will be really funky

Todd James and Espo have always been big names stateside. We just seem to get stuck in a certain aesthetic or only like stuff thats been hit all over Shoreditch for months on end. You only have to look at certain blogs to see that apparently Brick Lane is the center of the art world.
LAZ will always have the better artists and POW is kinda the equivalent of a feeder club imo

POW, by joeschmo on Aug 25, 2011 18:06:12 GMT 1, I don't find its the art that depresses me as much as how sterile its become in there, a lot of the older artists are complaining of the lack of atmosphere and anarchy thats missing there these days as well.
It used to be fun visiting that place 5-6-7 years ago, something edgy but passionate about the way everything was done, now its ''give us a file'', ''meeting on the 14th of August at 11am don;t be late'', print release, this price, that time, theres just nothing very personal about it, guess thats what happens when you get successful.

Really don't understand that sort of attitude you have the freedom to choose! so that sort of language is never justified.

From what you say it looks like there is a nice niche gap in the market for someone to have a bit of fun with

When you go into a gallery .. do you like everything that you see on show ... even it is all by the same artist ... I know I don't ...
ps: the Micallef at M&S 'Santa's' is great in the flesh and the Mark Sinckler (Prime) Age of Shiva piece is/was just stunning.

Faile Eelus Dolk Hewlett Eine
Really dont get why as a gallery you would stop dealing with names like these and instead release pictures of flying beagles..

POW, by Graffiti Prints on Aug 26, 2011 11:20:07 GMT 1, I have bought beautiful prints there over the years and they helped me build a lovely collection selling prints bought for 150 quid for 10k in the dizzy highs in 2007, I got into eine, invader and lots of other artists through them, I have only bought one invader print this year but I think it's great that they put artists up next to banksy, which must get them exposure they normally would not get! Which artist would turn down the chance of being on pow? They were much more edgy back in the day but everything has to grow up and if they were like that now each event would be mucho chaos vs the chaos now!
I still think pow are one of the best galleries still even though I don't like everything they put out!
