Nice, wasn't expecting the border to be like that...
Framing ideas?
I asked Helen at White Cube if they had a framed example they could show me. She said they hadn't but Darbyshire had quoted them for framing it in a very simple white box frame. She sent me a picture of a "Suffer Love ll" to give me an idea.

Mono-printing rocks. Live and let print.
WRONG
WHAT?
Hi tga
Thanks for your insightful response. As an avid 'mono-printer' I am interested by what you mean - hide behind a mono print? In my experiences of all the printing processes it's the least controlled or manufactured. As a process its very revealing.
Every mark is recorded - mistakes and all. That's integral to Emin's practise, isn't it? The need to reveal all. In that respect is it not the one of the most truthful processes she can work in? Where is the hiding?

Cheers Gilsteph, I was going to wikipedia it but thought James could give an artists insight. So monoprints are etchings 'Polymer gravure' is a plastic plate rather than acid etched metal plate.
Im not familiar with monoprinting do you have a quick method description ? What is the differences between that and etching ?
My Kiss arrived Sat its superb and as you describe shows sublte markings. From Emin International numbered under 50.
Hi rsyok,
A mono-print is a one off. It is usually a picture resulting from a process of ink transfer from a surface onto paper. This can be achieved in a variety of ways , some complicated, such as the use of a printing press, others simply by reverse drawing.
Reverse drawing on ink is the process that I enjoy and I am guessing also Emin uses. The fact it states they are a mono-print is somewhat misleading. The original was a mono-print and these are an edition there of - whether they are giclee, silk screen or lithograph I am not sure.
This is a video I made of me mono-printing a few years back. It seems to a popular demonstration judging by its views. (can't embed it -help anyone?)
The ink is rolled out. Paper is placed over the ink. When right, the consistency of the ink ensures that it only transfers onto the paper when pressure is applied. This means that any pressure will pick up ink (see the finger/palm print smudges on Emin's). Thats why I use a bridge to rest on. The process gives a reverse result and and will also leave a history of all marks made.
I tried mono-printing today for the first time at Edinburgh College of Art. I used the reverse drawing on ink method and am quite pleased with the results. here's one of my prints, including an unwanted thumb print!

Well done, excellent. Maybe the thumb print will become wanted in years to come who knows??
