Craww Vanity
The original work is currently featured in the "Guilty Pleasures and Modern Vices" show at the London Miles Gallery in East London. This exhibition will be available for public viewing from June 23rd - June 28th.
There is a cherished legend about Saint Ambrose that tells how a swarm of bees descended near his mouth during baptism - a harbinger, they say, of both his sweet disposition and his future eloquence as a Christian apologist. Whether or not the English graphic designer/artist Craww was... consciously referencing that story in Vanity is unimportant; there is a similar enough notion being presented here and one imbued, needless to say, with an erotic character that does not necessarily prompt religious connotations. Furthermore, the woman's eyes must be taken into account with their tears of either grief or post-ecstatic languor. The overall effect is haunting - and the fact that this was achieved with an impressive economy of color and line bespeaks commendable artistic skill.
All prints are Signed & Numbered by the Artist and come with a Certificate of Authenticity from 1xRUN.
