It means to squeeze a bit more out of a dealer, can also be craftily used by the dealer to back down from a deal knowing the punter will take up the option. Personally i have never known of any reputable dealer withdrawing an offer he or she has put on the table.

also, not sure i believe he had a buyer as who would want their high-end customers to know, via TV, how much they've ripped them off for?
I think he backed out personally. If he was happy to pay £240 on the show, then why not after? Unless he realised it possibly wasn't worth that much and he couldn't shift it after all.

you right Wiz, dealers are full of tricks to get themselves in and out of deals, don't think for a second the "Squeeze" comment was anything more than a good attempt to back out of the deal knowing the two owners would try to snatch a bit more cash out of them. I would also say that the dealers probably knew who their market was and if they could/couldn't sell the thing, it may have been that all parties were aware none of the dealers would part with the cash and so constructed a good scenario to make good TV

like the Dragons Den - 9 out of 10 deals never get to be completed and I would have hazard a guess, even if they agreed at £240K, Jeff Salmon would have, upon finding out what others offered and done his due diligence pulled the plug on buying it.

those pair are just part of the system that talks up banksy prices - it's all pretty transparent really. Good PR and mildy entertaining but there's better stuff on TV - Adam Curtis doc was bloody brilliant.

Entertaining programme, watched it lsat night and laughed my ass off when they walked off empty-handed - then thought about it a bit, read this thread and have to agree it sounds incredibly engineered... The programme wins by getting the Banksy exposure, the 2 prats win by getting a "geniune" bid of £240k, no doubt Mr Dealer gets a drink should the wall go for the desired fee - which it won't (I hope!)
Also, why would Tracey Emins brother need to go on a programme like that to flog some of her stuff??

Or something along these lines....????????? Paul's partying lifestyle came to a sudden halt in December 2007 when he had a serious accident while working as a carpenter near Cardiff. He fell 30ft down a ladder and landed on his head. He fractured his neck and was later diagnosed with epilepsy. He admits: 'Sometimes I go to bed and I wake up on the floor. I lose control of my body. It's not a pretty sight.' Tracey was concerned about Paul's situation, particularly since his relationship with his girlfriend collapsed soon afterwards and his money ran out. 'Tracey helped me move back nearer my mum so I could get proper care,' says Paul. 'I haven't been back to work since. It's been a burden - I was used to earning £1,000 a week - but I've managed to struggle through on disability benefits. I've had to put my partying days behind me as I'm on so much medication. 'Tracey is very generous - I have borrowed money from her in the past. But I cannot keep asking her to bail me out. We have had periods before when we haven't spoken as we are both strong characters. But I am very proud of her, and I love her more than anything in the world.'
