Always happy to oblige SILKY...hope you you are doing awesome!!!
Below is MEAR & D-face (meeting for the first time) @ the 51st floor of the Ritz, where MEAR is currently doing an installation for a VIP after-party on this upcoming Jan 19th (hosted by Shepard & Amanda Fairey & curated by Bryson Strauss):

Here is the view (via a quick stop motion time lapse) from the 51st floor of the Ritz Penthouse where they (MEAR & D-face while chatting) are @ & the VIP party is being held...not a bad view to say the least!!!
Please post some shots of that Mear One piece when its finished Thanks!
Had a feelin in ma bones that D*Face and Mear would get along well
I'll happily post them, but please thank Arrested Motion (and more specifically their photographer Brandon Shigeta)...who did an amazing job of covering it!
I will pass along the kind sentiments too (and I know they REALLY REALLY appreciate you helping keep everyone updated on the show & truly everything else you have done over the MANY years now)...but basically, as a little more to share, D-Face is going to be out here for at least a month straight working on the show. MEAR already has some amazing ideas & has been cranking away.
I think it will be very interesting to see how everything comes together as things get closer and ideas go from conceptualization to actually building the massive large scale installations out..which will probably start soon.

Amazing stuff
Just looking at those Mear One pieces you can imagine how well his style will go with D*Faces. They are both very different, but I think they will really compliment each other

I think Im more excited about this show than the Marks & Stencils
Me too!! This will be an amazing show. I have most of Mear Ones prints and have had the best experience with Baurmann Gallery. Thanks for everything Derek. You run a rockin ship and are always full of great surprises and extras. Cant wait for this show!!
"The winter months and grey, grey short days have been kept busy harvesting creatures, painting pictures, approaching new themes and reoccurring dreams... and as Spring approaches it's time to unveil this new body of work... I'm pleased to announce my solo show at Corey Helford Gallery, Culver City. LA. April 9th.
If thats not enough May 6th will see the opening of a group installation show and British Invasion, myself, Word To Mother, Will Barras and The London Police are working with LA artist Mear One and 3 other US artists to create a Temporary Metropolis... yeah even I'm not sure what thats going to look like...
If this isn't enough I hear LA has some pretty good sun... might be worth a visit."

Thanks again for all of the updates SILKY and keeping everything posted (in addition to all of the great background videos and photos too)!!!!
Here is a really rough video I shot during the meeting/walk-through w/ some members of MEAR's team along w/ MEAR & Bryson. It was taken on 2-7-11, and you can definitely start to get a feel for how huge & massive this space is.
This is only a portion of it (shown in the video):

Thanks for the video
Loads of wall space I can see why they have a few more artists involved now, with so much space to play around with. Looks like its really geared up well for displaying art with all the lighting

My pleasure...I really hope to be able to share lots of cool stuff ahead for sure too!
Yeah, that space is absolutely MASSIVE!!!
There is a huge open ballroom (in the back) and lots of space not even shown in the video or pictures (posted below)...so seeing it in person definitely put the scope/scale of this in perspective a bit for me personally.
I am so incredibly stoked that things are starting to rock now in a big way too...In regards to MEAR's camp, he is pretty much planning and meeting with all of the different members of his team to see what can be done, within the scope of time available, with the maximum/smartest use of his resources available. Things should hopefully start being build out extremely soon....all of the planning, research and preparation just needs to be done ASAP before things can start full force (in terms of construction) with the massive building/installation projects ahead.
In the photos (below), there is Bryson Strauss & MEAR ONE of coarse...but also, the person w/ the dreadlocks is YEM (who used to write KRENZ and is one of the early godfathers of LA graffiti...he is also the leader of AM7, which was REVOK's old crew before joining AWR/MSK)...also, the taller gentleman is DJ Hines Buchanan, who is the DJ for Aceyalone (in addition to having a lot of history w/ everyone from the Project Blowed days too). The other person w/ longer hair is Simon (an animator who mostly does high end music videos). He is an old friend of MEAR's (and was in CBS w/ him as well). These are just some of the people MEAR will be working with to manifest and actualize all of his ideas and concepts.
Here is everyone walking through the enormous space:

Also, when checking out the upcoming show location (for the Brit-Week show)...Bryson took us up to the SOURCE LA Exhibition for a private viewing (which has works by MEAR, RETNA & KOFIE to name a few)...that show is still available to see by appointment btw too:
What are those three squashed plastic things stuck on a wall all about?.
Wizbong....Very good eye & question...
That's one of those things I was there for the conversation but I was not really there mentally per se...LOL...I think being such a fan of RETNA's work had me completely focused on his pieces a little bit instead of listening like I should have been when that story was being told...that's of coarse the 1 question you ask too
I think while I was just wondering which of my walls would fit that RETNA piece best...LOL...MEAR actually asked about that piece too (like you did) in particular because he was curious about how it was done & was intrigued by it. He was asking how the crushed can effect was achieved in conjunction with the paint/finish being so smooth...how it was done and the techniques utilized (was the part of the conversation I know they said very specifically that I was there but not there for...LOL). I will follow up w/ MEAR or Bryson and ask him who did it and how it was done, because I though that was a very interesting piece too...both in concept and execution.
One of the artists in that show I was glad to check out (I had not seen previously but was impressed by...who could be the same on who did the cans but don't want to assume)....was HACER...some examples of his work are linked below:
