Black Rat Projects "Printmaking Today" 10th Feb, by Ruggs on Jan 21, 2011 9:53:40 GMT 1, Black Rat Projects is delighted to announce that our first show of 2011 will continue our annual tradition of an exhibition devoted to the edition. In Printmaking Today we will be exhibiting prints we have published from our represented artists alongside key works by other artists in the first decade of the 21st century. The show will include works by Peter Blake, Banksy, Tracey Emin, D*face, Damien Hirst, Nick Walker, Grayson Perry, Know Hope, Shepard Fairey and Bridget Riley. In addition to this we have been working on a number of new prints to be released on the preview evening. These include special editions by Matt Small, Swoon, Brian Douglas and Candice Tripp.
We are very excited that ROA has agreed to work on a site specific installation in our project space built in the centre of the gallery (the post-apocalyptic Black Dog bookshop didnโt quite survive 2010 but the remains of its contents, works by the greatest writers, critics and philosophers of our time, are still in the gallery collecting dust on some state of the art shelves designed by artist Rupert Emerton. Feel free to drop in, select a book and make use of our sofas- weโll make you a coffee!). While concrete plans are still in the making, initial discussions with ROA have been exciting and we cannot wait to see what he does. This installation will be exhibited alongside Printmaking Today.
Finally the preview promises to be a fun affair with Stoke Newingtonโs hugely talented Henningham Family Press in attendance running their brilliant Chip Shop live printing happenings. We had the pleasure of meeting them in action at the Multiplied Art Fair last October and were delighted when they agreed to participate in this show.
The Printmaking Today and ROA exhibition previews on February 10th and invites will be sent out via email.
Lastly in a brick arch in Shoreditch (but not this one) there is currently an exhibition featuring the work on one of our favourite artists Sweettoof. The show is well worth a visit and details can be found at www.arch402.com

Black Rat Projects "Printmaking Today" 10th Feb, by Daniel Silk on Jan 21, 2011 12:43:40 GMT 1, Will be interesting to see if the D*Face pieces are new as he has his big show on in LA the month after, so might give us an idea of what he has been working on.

Black Rat Projects "Printmaking Today" 10th Feb, by Ruggs on Feb 7, 2011 11:50:07 GMT 1, Latest Info!
Black Rat Projects has for the past four years been supporting and developing the careers of artists whose mediums and techniques are in many ways traditional yet whose practices are infused with an undeniably contemporary interventionist spirit. Our artists are many things but they have all been woodcutters, screenprinters, painters and etchers and we continue to mark their developments in drawing and painting with the prints we publish as Black Rat Press. With 2011's Printmaking Today we will be releasing new editions by Matt Small, Candice Trip and what has been our most technically complex printmaking project with Swoon to date. These works will be displayed alongside earlier BRP projects as we contextualise our archive with some of the most important artefacts of contemporary printmaking. Works by Bridget Riley, Lucien Freud, Damien Hirst, Chris Ofili and Grayson Perry are among those on display. In a celebration of process the opening night on Thursday 10th will be an inclusive insight into the fundamentals of printmaking. Stoke Newington's local printmakers the Henningham Family Press will set up their 'Chip Shop' for what will be a performative addition to the exhibition.
Running parallel to our annual print show is the BRP pop-up Project Space. We are excited to announce the first artist in residency project which lends support to an artist for a flexible period of time with the view to breeding experimentation and facilitating a freedom of expression un-connected to commercial gain. The Project Space is currently inhabited by Belgian painter ROA whose large-scaled and often lenticular works can be spotted around east London and internationally. For this exhibition his work takes a sculptural turn with doors, windows and un-expected openings breaking through the contained frame of the Project Space built in the centre of the gallery.
Invites will be sent out on Monday and we look forward to seeing you there.
Best wishes

Black Rat Projects "Printmaking Today" 10th Feb, by Agent Provocateur on Feb 10, 2011 23:21:12 GMT 1, Here's a few (crap) photos of the evenings shenanigans, great to see another BRP show... realised tonight I didn't get to any of their shows last year!
A Nick Walker unique 'V for Vandal' and at ยฃ1,200 well priced me thinks.
Matt Small's two (huge) prints... I really like the metallic version, slightly diff. from his usual fair. Think the colour version was an edition of 95 at ยฃ450 (loads of colours) and the metallic version an edition of 10 for ยฃ450 (fewer colours).
And the Swoon print/og which was an edition of 28 (ยฃ1,200 if my memory serves me correctly)... three layers of pasted paper and mahoosive! I'm not the biggest Swoon fan, totally admire her skill, ethos and boat building... but this was stunning.

Black Rat Projects "Printmaking Today" 10th Feb, by Happy Shopper on Feb 11, 2011 0:33:17 GMT 1, Roa was amazing. DFace prints for the book were even smaller than I expected... and not worth the high price of the book IMO. Loved the new Pure Evil print, and Mrs Happy Shopper liked it so much she bought one!
I thought the 2 Matt Small prints were the same edition sizes, Gold and Colour? Both 95?? The colours on full colour one are incredible. It looks like an original!
