Jamie Reid, by finsburyparkranger on Sept 7, 2007 13:39:27 GMT 1, I've got a friend that is into Jamie Reid and would like to know a good place to get a good price on Jamie read prints. Anyone got any idea's or anything for sale?
His phone number would be a bonus.
Cheers in advance.

Cheers Pez. Although these three pieces in particular
A) 'cheap holidays in other people's misery. B) Swastica eye. C) Original of god save the queen.
Ideally not paying art republic prices.

Jamie Reid, by tiptonslasher on Sept 7, 2007 14:51:58 GMT 1, I have a number of interesting pieces including an original 70's Dead Kennedys California Uber Alles poster. Does anybody have an informed (or uninformed) opionion whether prices will increase for Jamie Reids work?

No one will be able to say for certain whether Jamie Reid prices will or will not increase. Though my uninformed opinion is that Reid is a safer bet than most of the artists discussed on this board. His artwork literally defined an entire era of youth culture, he's got a long-standing international reputation and is collected by art fans and musos alike. He has a big fan base. I have no doubt he'll be remembered for years after most of the people we're currently discussing on here are long forgotten.
On the downside, he does churn out the work (including plenty of re-issues) and is pretty happy to sign anything you put in front of him. He's just such a nice guy! That said, if you've got an old rare piece, it's likely to continue to appreciate. No guarantees, of course.

Jamie Reid, by pezlow on Sept 7, 2007 15:09:47 GMT 1, It could be argued that the height of Reid's notoriety was at the time of the Never Mind the Bollocks album release. Despite this he is still popular nearly 30 years later so I would agree with JJ (what happened to the rest of your name!) that he is a fairly safe bet. It is unlikely that you will ever see the astronomic rises in the value of his work though.

I'd agree - certainly not in the short to middle term anyway. Though Jamie's 70s and 80s originals are now fetching very tidy sums indeed.
It's also worth noting that much of Jamie's primary fan base, i.e., those heavily into the punk scene when it was at it's height, have turned to more traditional establishment careers and can now afford to spend money on his art.
Plus the punk aesthetic has made a huge resurgence in recent years.
I'd be interested to hear Romanywg's thoughts on the subject. He was obviously very much involved in the scene.

Jamie Reid, by romanywg on Sept 7, 2007 23:59:01 GMT 1, If youre friend wants really cheap Reid, nowhere better than A.M.U.T.I. (owned by his dealers, The Aquarium.) They sell rare, out of date and reject Reids. I have picked up unique Printers Proofs for less than ยฃ50. Swastika eyes being one of them. Give Laurence a ring on 020 7387 8417 and he'll let you know exactly what he has in stock. JJ you pretty much summed it up. I never was an actual fan of his work at the time but it has grown on me recently.
