I did have a go with some tiles and although I didnt try and pass them off as 'real' invaders there was virtually no difference at all... I cemented one to my garage wall and it does look just like the ones you see out and about! What there are real invaders out and about; amongst us? Good gracious.

For people saying that INVADER's art is just tiles... and could easily be DIY. It's probably true. BUT When I buy a IK from Invader, I simply buy a genuine one from Invader, made by him (or his assistant, I don't care). Sure, I could do it myself with 10 cents tiles (or whatever they cost) but it would not be the same in my opinion. If you go that way, Andy Warhol just screenprinted stuff on canvas : I certainly could do this myself : news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20101110/media_nm/us_usa_auction(yeah, that's a 35 million dollars bottle... Stupid ? Maybe. But do you think anyone would have believed it EVER that price if we had told them back in the 60s ?). I don't know if Invader Art will ever sell for big bucks in the future. But they are ever sold at huge prices, some of us will probably chuckle remembering people saying "do it yourself" or "200 is too expensive". Value of Art is always a subjective point of view anyway. Except I'll never be the first one to think about it. Which makes the whole difference... Being a parisian, I absolutely love the fact that I can walk in Paris and quickly come across an invader wherever I am in Paris. It's a real urban game. It has totally transformed my way of getting around in the city because I always look for invaders now. And buying kits certainly allows the artist to make a living out of it and make new ones, in Paris or any big city in the world.

I have two Space Invaders on my fridge door! I used coloured glass, magnetic tiles from Habitat, they are only a bit of fun but look great. Or at least my boy likes them.

It has totally transformed my way of getting around in the city because I always look for invaders now. And buying kits certainly allows the artist to make a living out of it and make new ones, in Paris or any big city in the world. Invader tiles used by him are probably '10cent' tiles, so why can't you use some for fun if you want too? The idea is never to buy tiles and say it is from Invader or by any means steal his work. His art is lovely, imaginative (even if there was a thread here sometime ago that mentioned a guy in the 70s or something building invaders with tiles too) and important to the 'urban scene'. The idea of invasions is also what makes his work special. The point is why buy '10 cent' tiles that are not even signed to promote the idea/art he created? I understand his work in the streets but these selling kits should have something special and not just tiles. The screenprints have the embossed and the colours and inks makes them special too. The tilled books are really something very desirable... I still do not see a trend line with the comparisons people are using to justify their points of view, but I find them quite interesting: 1. Banksy's unsigned 'Trolleys'; 2. Manzoni's 'Merda d'artista'; 3. Andy Warhol's 'A black-and-white Coke bottle on canvas' From the above I confess I find Invader kits much more appealing to the eye, nose and pocket.

I am Invader fan as I have many pieces from him so I don't agree with people that do not consider concept as a sufficient condition to make difference between art and "I can do it myself"...... A concept grow and could be easy to understand but it is not a reason to deconsider artist research!

Can U please explain your deja vu reply ? Can you please explain the context of your reply with my previous posts? When I was a kid I did learn that it was rude to reply to a question with another, but I will reply anyway. It is dejá-vu because in the previous posts in the thread that question was somehow already made. Also it was not the type of reply that contributes to a discussion but pure nonsense. Also anticipating your reply to my question I may say that there is no point in replying defending the art concept of Invader to someone that just wrote about it and mentioned that his art is unique and important to the scene.

Jack, if you are familiar with Invader's work you'll know that there are not many ways to own a piece of his art : alias pieces are scarce and very expensive. Tiles glued to wood panels sold in galleries are even more expensive. What does it leaves ? Maps and books. Or kits. His kits are the closest one can get to his street art : it is made with the same tiles used in the street. Prints are very nice but they are not what he is famed for. The fact that one can easily DIY is not the point. I don't care about doing invader stuff myself, it would be an imitation. What I buy is an original from the artist. I buy his idea / concept / creativity. Reproducing any of his invaders would cost me less than 10 euros, including my kits I paid for 20 times more. Now, if anyone wants to DIY an invader, it's ok. It's just it will have no value on the art market (which is probably something most of us keep in mind when buying some art : it can be some sort of investment too, let's face it). Regarding the comparisons to Banksy unsigned print, Manzoni's mierda or Warhol's print, what we mean is that the value of art is not related to the value of the material used to make it (except Hirst's skull of course ;-). It is not even the easthetical or technical quality of the work. IMHO it's the fact that the artist brings something new. To some people, Basquiat's works are just child's doodles made with acrylic on cheap canvas or garbage or wood panels. To some, it's revolutionary art which is worth millions. Invader is probably the same. To some, it's just ceramic tiles. To others, it's a great and new street art concept who will accept paying 200 euros for mere ceramic tiles...
