Urban Artist UK Urban Artist Europe Urban Artist North America Urban Artist South America Urban Artist Australia Street Artist UK Street Artist Europe Street Artist North America Street Artist South America Street Artist Australia Gallery UK Gallery Europe Gallery North America Gallery South America Gallery Australia The only problem I can see is we might strfor nuggle with getting enough nominees in some of the South America and Australia categories but that might grow over the years. If your gonna do this thing, why have so many catagories ? By the way, street artist and urban artist is the same thing... just thought id point that out

My question might be stupid, sorry about it, but what kind of differences are there between Urban Art and Street Art ? What makes the two terms different ?

Urban art , is art created in an urban area. Urban is characterized by higher population density and vast human features in comparison to areas surrounding it. Urban areas may be cities, towns or conurbations, but the term is not commonly extended to rural settlements such as villages and hamlets. Street art is simply art on any Street, be it Town Country whatever,
I guess, but surely just the same,

Thank you Walshy, that's what I think as well so wondering why make a difference between urban and street ? On the other hand, maybe differencing some techniques could be an idea :
Stencil Wheatpasting Direct Spraypaint Stickers Other medium or installation (like invader or Mark Jenkins)
My 2 cents / pennies :-)

Have you asked anyone that paints ? because from what I see, most Graffiti artists hate stencils or 'urban art' and hate any label other that graffiti artist... infact most see it as an insult It really is very simple silky, you just need to have half an idea what you are talking about

If its promoting a sale I actually think most fans are not keen on that either... But as you say its all about taste

Hmm in a nutshell it's more a question of OUTSIDE / INSIDE then, street and urban notions being very similar... :
Outside art of the year (stencil, pasteup, graffiti or whatever which can be freely appreciated by viewers outside in an urban environment) Inside art of the year (canvas, print, sculpture, artoy or whateve to be bought and displayed inside)

I wonder if the Australia and South America categories could be introduced in a year or two, coz at the moment I'm not sure we would get enough artists nominated in those categories to really make a fair vote

Why do you say that Silky? Surely if there is a category for both then you will get votes? ;D You may get the majority of people voting for OS Gemeos and Lister to be fair but that's only to be expected.

Street art is a much better term, even when describing prints, i dont think any street artist would describe themself as an urban artist. The term urban art stinks IMO Stick to inside and outside.

Yep! your right of course Artists who do stuff on the streets call themselves Street Artists. What do the Artists in this scene who dont do stuff on the streets call themselves?

my point is calling street artists who produce prints urban artists is the wrong idea. IMO
maybe Dan Baldwin and Parla wont agree tho.

The problem with wikis definition is that 90% of street art is viewed on the Internet due to location and longevity of the work, if its ok to document street art with photos, then why not prints, so the term street art is very blurred.

My point was that a print isnt street art Street Art by definition is Art in the Streets en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Street_art but then again urban art is by defenition done in a city. I don't think dan baldwin lives in a city any more... he has moved to the country, so he cannot be an urban artist any more. Also I think Gee Vaucher lives in the country, so perhaps beucolic art might be a better term for those two. At the end of the day they are artists doing art. So maybe we should just call them artists, rather than arbitrarily trying to define their work in terms of the environment they live in.... whether urban or rural
