i love the python-esque surreality of them - especially on the street - whereas DAIN stuff just says to me little brother trying to be like big brother..

well i tend to think that he doesn't try at all when producing these - they just come from his imagination, which, again, is something most in this scene lack.
i'm not sure how you get 'thats nice' from images of people bathing in brain cavities or (in earlier work) vaginas pasted onto faces and painful childbirth allusions...
as for DAIN, yes his style is different to BAST.. in that it appears to be a watered down version with as much punch and aggression as a baby mouse

no, your right each to their own.
but, as a counterpoint, does a banksy rat 'evoke emotion'? and nearly everyone loves them, despite being a one-note joke.
basically what i'm saying is that this work isn't about emotion it's about the expression of a highly creative, surrealist mind

true but for something to work for me it's needs to make think something positive about it, I need to 'enjoy' the piece, and this is where taste comes in...a couple of the rats do pretty much nothing for me, while others such as love and because I'm ... either make me smile because it's simple but effective pun and also with because... on another level it makes u think about the human condition (lol) ..

Judith Supine & DAIN hit the streets (photos), by Harveyn on Jul 23, 2008 12:21:43 GMT 1, I really love Supine's work and it looks especially good in the street.
For me its the fact that his pieces send my imagination running in different directions. The complexity of the images and what they might be portraying really appeals to me.
I think what puts some people off is the medium used and the simplicity in the method of production. Its the contrast between this simplicity and the image complexity that appeals to me.

Very nicely put Harveyn. I like the Dain pieces. The Supine's are fantastic. I think the colours and images are fantasticaly sureal. The girl in the blue dress stands out for me. It looks to me like the style is developing. They look a little less dark than other work I have seen. Absolutely fantastic - thanks for posting the pics thesewalls. I went to the Supine show at tlsg that he had with Bast - thought he stole the show, imo. Still really pissed off that I didn't pick up a piece when i could - wasn't feeling flush enough at the time.

Judith Supine & DAIN hit the streets (photos), by kahuna on Jul 23, 2008 22:55:32 GMT 1, The Supine installation at English Kills in Brooklyn was exceptional. This man is seriously talented and during these repetitive days, his street pieces are refreshing.

Judith Supine & DAIN hit the streets (photos), by thesewalls on Jul 24, 2008 20:39:00 GMT 1, Really glad you're all picking up what i'm putting down...ha, more like what THEY'RE putting down...i'll keep the pictures coming as the streets evolve. Supine does a great job with placement and location - all of his pieces interact perfectly with their environment. They'll be nothing nothing nothing that BAM! some bright neon beauty starts talking to you...'step into my world' i hear them say...very surreal indeed!
DAIN has been on a mission. The images above are everywhere (thanks for the addition Prescription Art, forgot to post that one). I like his work, but part of it's allure is repetition. He is speaking very loudly right now, although i'm not convinced of his content quite yet. Mad props for the sheer amount of ups and smooth delivery, but a little ways to go imo. Again, awesome to see on the streets! Keep up the good work!
