Had emailed the gallery to enquire about the above print but at $1,800 cannot justify it especially with the edition size of 75 + proofs

Agreed. They are very nice but very EXPENSIVE. For about $1000 more you can get an original.

They're all really hot prints though and honestly the price is good for Barry's work considering the large size. It's 22x30 inches!? The graffiti print is even bigger. But I do wish they'd offer a good package deal on all 3.
But it's a fair price, an original work on paper this size would be about $7500+ ... on wood $12k+ So if you don't want to spend that kind of money...
^ And yeah James for $2800 you could probably find an OG on paper eventually but it will be a fraction of this size and probably won't be as strong an image. But depends what you want.

No on all counts. Not great images from either artist. massively over priced.
Wish I'd gone for one of the POW Todd James "War Party" prints when they popped up from behind the sofa a few months ago.

Love them, and think they are fairly priced to be honest considering the size and image strength.
I was offered some smaller todd james pieces for a lot more when he had his show a few months back.. and that piece is nice and big!
very tempting indeed.

Does anyone know how the tags piece is printed ? I agree they are pretty big too. Im sure people don't realize how small a lot of Mcgee drawings usually are.

volvic, would you please explain what exactly the image strength is all about, what is it based on- it doesn't speak to me @ all, i'm really curious what it speaks to others!

I guess a lot of it is all down to personal taste and preference but once you get to know the artist and what they have produced you can judge whether an image is strong by there standards or not. A lot of factors come into that, composition, palette etc.
Of course you have to like the artist and understand what he / she is about first.
Its a bit like being able to know if a picasso is a 'good one' or not.

thank you for getting back. it seems a very diplomatic and across-the-board answer- i would be interested to learn about what it means to YOU (or any other person here that feels it)?

McGee's drawings are of real people, they come from people he sees on the street. Mostly common, everyday people, down on their luck, or looking for hope. For whatever reason those kind of images inspire me...
This is a rare print release by him. The last prints he did were a set of 10 small etchings for $12,000. The only other prints was a poor ray fong inkjet that came out a couple years ago and the old scribble and scripture screenprint which is impossible to find now.

Love the print, but I hate the price tag... I have an original Barry McGee for sale for $5K... If you're considering buying this print, you should re-consider and buy the original painting that I'm selling. There are 75 of these prints but only 1 in existence of the piece I have for sale =)

Those prints look amazing in person. They're drypoint etchings (they're drawn with a needle) and the quality of line work and the production of the prints is outstanding.

Printed by Jacob Samuel editions in los angeles. The hammer museum just purchased a complete set of all the editions from JS and hosted an exhibition of all the prints. "Outside the Box" They actually chose one of Mcgee's prints for the banners.

I'd love to buy 1 or 2 these prints but I already own that set of etchings and some originals by Barry so I don't think I'll buy any right now. But I did hear the edition has been selling well.
EDIT: found this online "All prints are original stoneprints made in Copenhagen and come numbered and signed." So that means these are not photo lithos, no dot patterns, images are drawn directly on the stone and transferred to paper for the highest amount of detail.
