Grafter Splash - New Triptych available tomorrow, by Guest on Feb 13, 2009 14:23:58 GMT 1, Nice one Grafter, all sold in the hour. Been reading this thread with interest. Just wanna say, f**king fickle people, money, money, money thats all its about. Grafter at end of the day is one of us, he attends gallery open evenings, he supports fellow artists, he is an active member of this board and he has done his fair share to support various charities. Have we forgotten that we buy this art because we love the images, we don't buy it to make a profit! Wonder what this forum is coming to more and more every day! f**king sad! Keep up good work Grafter!
Could not agree more.

Grafter Splash - New Triptych available tomorrow, by edcase on Feb 13, 2009 14:26:00 GMT 1, I have the 7th piece from the white run.
Another satisfied customer here, I have absolutely zero issues with this new release. If he were just pumping these out week after week, I might start feeling a little aggrieved, but as has already been pointed out numerous times in this thread the overall run of images in totality is still very small compared even with many bog standard print runs, and these editions are all different in some way, be it colour or material, so give the guy a break!

Grafter Splash - New Triptych available tomorrow, by slowmo on Feb 13, 2009 14:36:22 GMT 1, I've made no comment on the image, just that its incorrectly described. Some parts of this thread are OTT, but pud to be honest, people have a right to feel upset about this if they own one of the first run from the series as much as those who are not upset can say they dont care.
I thought Del Naja was out of order doing the hand finished ghetto prints. I thought it was out of order Paul Insect producing later colourways of dead rebels and hand finished who to believes. You should set your stall out with a defining series before releasing any multiple series, but this is a personal opinion and I am sure others would disagree. Otherwise, what are you paying for? Hate to bring money into it, but as rightly told many times, if you just want the image, go and get a high res of one and get it printed onto a canvas, it'll be a lot cheaper. If you want something limited by the artist you pay more and expect it to stay at that limit, when it does not, disappointment springs to mind.
I buy limited edition work because I want something that others don't have up on my wall. To now know that should I buy Grafter in the future it may well be knocked up more in the future (and indeed look better or worse than the edition I had purchased) would certainly make me think twice. As a result of this practice I will not buy or support Insect and Del Naja but as yet have not made the decision on Grafter as I genuinely think he done this for the right reasons (not greed, but demand and trying to meet it).

Grafter Splash - New Triptych available tomorrow, by urbanangel on Feb 13, 2009 14:38:17 GMT 1, I forgot to add, when you buy this piece, you get 3 small tins of paint, which are the exact colours of the 3 Splashes. This is so you can customise your own frame, should you wish to.
Grafter takes no responsibility if you decide to do DIY job on the image itself:)

Grafter Splash - New Triptych available tomorrow, by jonpud on Feb 13, 2009 14:48:29 GMT 1, Slowmo,
Well put fella, I have always respected your opinion and I tend to agree with much that you have said.
Thing is there aren't many of these about even if you take all of the editions added together, then when you whittle them down to the individual editions the are all pretty unique.
In this instance the latest release will have no effect on the value of the original pieces. If anything it will probably increase the value of the originals, due to popular demand they are now ยฃ400 from source when the originals were only ยฃ100 (and much nicer IMO)
Grafter, like I said is one of us, accessible and genuine. He has only done what WE the forum have been requesting for years, increasing availability of popular images and making them more accessible at reasonable prices to more of us.
He did also set out that this would be the FINAL edition, and his reasons for releasing it.
If I had one gripe, then it would be the price, I feel that ยฃ300 would have been more realistic, I also feel slightly saddened that he has sold via a gallery instead of from his own site. I hope this release is genuinely his own doing and not as a resullt of pressure from the gallery to enable them to make a quick buck! Seeing as it is UrbanAngel I would suggest that this is Grafters doing, and if so all cool with me!!

The total editions sizes dont matter, the values dont matter, the retailprices dont matter, the intent behind the realease dosent matter (even to satisfy demand). Once a limited edition release is sodl out that should be the end of it. Giving in to public demand and producing a new even varied edition of an image should never be an option IMO. I also disagree with most and dont think extras to replace shipping damages should be produced, the integrity of the limited edition run should be the first priority of an artist.

You are 100% correct, we do not put any pressure on any artist we work with. In fact, quite the opposite. Now we have the gallery, we are being approached by new artists on a daily basis.

Grafter Splash - New Triptych available tomorrow, by urbanangel on Feb 13, 2009 15:15:19 GMT 1, We have agreed a deal with Mr Framerman, which will enable customers to drop their artwork off at our gallery, then collect it once framed, for the exact same price you would pay if sending it to him yourself.
We have also agreed a special price for the framing of the Triptych, and we will send the unframed pieces to him on your behalf, then they will be delivered to your home, or you can collect from the gallery if you prefer. This is of course if you wish Gary to frame your piece. UK customers only.
This is an ongoing agreement and Gary will have a concession within the gallery.
As i said above, you will pay the exact same price as dealing with Gary directly.
Hope this helps people out.
Andrew & Gary.

Grafter Splash - New Triptych available tomorrow, by curiousgeorge on Feb 13, 2009 15:20:00 GMT 1, I'm going to go against the grain, and this is not aimed at Grafter or U/A.
But am the only one i thinking that the vast majority of Artists and Galleries seem to be unaware we are in possibly? the toughest recession any of us have ever known
To my mind it seems a bit crazy to increase prices during these times, again this applies to a lot of Artists/Galleries.These are just my personal feelings and i wish each and every artist all the best in everything they do.
Auction prices are falling quicker than a brick, yet to put prices up during these times, a cynical man might say it's a case of grab what you can, while you can.

I Agree.
I think some Artists and Galleries are making some big mistakes at the moment (not talking about anyone in particular) Its just a matter of keeping your feet on the ground, and being realistic. Also I get the impression some Artists are sort of being used by groups of people who buy up work, Hype it up, then off load it all trying to make a profit I think some Artists really need to think about this sort of thing, and how it could possibly damage them badly in the long run

Grafter Splash - New Triptych available tomorrow, by jones27 on Feb 13, 2009 16:31:15 GMT 1, Ideally the big boys will reduce release prices back to 2006 levels and put everything into perspective for the up and coming artists. I mean if Faile released another Dog print in March at $500, then no way would Graffter pop along come easter with another ยฃ400 release. But ultimately this is our responsibility. Maybe we should picket Urban Angel and have banners with 'cut poverty, cheaper prints now' !

Sounds like a good idea for a print "Picketing Angels"

This is so you can customise your own frame, should you wish to. Grafter takes no responsibility if you decide to do DIY job on the image itself:)
God no...people leave your frames alone !!!

Each to his own i suppose
