I know we're in the sticks up here but it's not the Eastern Bloc circa 1970 you know. We even have electricity and stuff . . .
Get on that train.

Sorry, it's not a show, it's an exhibition.
It's also free to get it.

Just got back from the exhibition at the Baltic centre... What a trip... 5 hours drive there and 6 hours drive back. But well worth it.
The exhibition is great (Photos tommorow)... Plus I met Mr Mcgee and what a top bloke!!! We swapped stickers (Yes... I got a bunch of Twist stickers) and he drew and tagged all over two pages of my black book and even swapped adresses with me to do some zine swapping! He was so nice and had loads of time to chat to me about graffiti, zines (He seemed to like Very Nearly Almost!!!) and other stuff.
SO worth all that driving!

That is AWESOME news, Macdeee - I'm a huge McGee fan and happy to hear all of this. Definitely looking forward to your pics tomorrow? Did you see anything for sale there? If yes, what were some examples and prices? Thanks man!

Hi DKLA.... No prices. I think none of its for sale. I could be wrong. I just got the impression it was a collection rather than a show. Still worth while to visit... Plus in the shop they have a great selection of Barry Mcgee books as well as other street art publications. I picked up a few of Mcgee's older books and the Street Market book. Overall well worth the visit.
Pics later if I can.

Thanks Bombshelter... yes, lucky man indeed. I spoke to him at the "Media preview" (There was a newspaper photographer and a camera man there) after that was finished he was heading up to Scotland that afternoon, then down to London and home to SF. So he is not around for long I dont think.

Going to have to pay it a visit, me thinks. Not seen his work in the flesh. Sham69, did you go to the Spank The Monkey exhibition last year. I didn't get chance but have been reliably informed by many that did that it was a bit of a let down. Newcastle is certainly trying to embrace the 'scene' (for want of a better word). Some great work on the streets

I couldnt possibly say graeme501. But that tash is amazing!!!!
I find his shows great, because its like a mix of raw graffiti, video instalations, junk instalations. "tape paintings", drawings, charachters, photos and randomness. Its a 3D zine!
A small space (Smaller than being able to walk through a whole van into the exhibition) but well worth a visit in my opinion.

looks good, although I think Redcat had a bit more... still it is good for the UK to get more exposure to one of the best street artists of all time

Tash it is. The other guy by all accounts is 'Amaze'. If you get a chance check out the Beautiful Losers book. Loads of great stuff in there. I went to the Spank The Monkey Show and to be honest thought it was good, loads of great work all in one place. I've heard a lot of people say they were disappointed. The stuff on the streets was quality too. Faile, Obey, McGee et al all in one place, what more do people want?

pics are amazing. Saw a small/medium installation at Basel this year. I want, I want, I want. Hoping I can score something "affordable" yet kick ass.

A few times a year his stuff comes up affordable. I've been collecting his stuff for years and now have a mini installation ( about 10 pieces). You basically have to be viligant and everytime he has an exhibition send an email to the curator of the museum asking if individual works are available. Even though 98% of the time his works only sell as an installation, 2% of the time he'll give or provide a couple works for the museum to sell. So be viligant fellas. I think Barry is one artist in it for the long hall. Two years ago his bottles were selling for 2500 now they are pushing 10,000. He has constant museum exhibitions and is colected by MAJOR collectors/museums. His stuff is sorta underrated. I think if the economy crashes, you'll see 99% of the artists out there disappear. When the smoke settles it will be Barry, Banksy, Faile, Neate, Parla. All these guys have broken new ground and are so incredibly unique. No secret.

I picked up this piece from a guy in Hells Kitchen NY. Wasn't pitched as McGee but I loved it anyway. Spoke to Barry about it on Sunday, he was happy enough and said it wasn't his 'coz there's no way I can get that loose'. At the end of the day I'm still happy with it. It's about 5ft on canvas, at the end of the day there's someone out there who deserves the credit. The best McGee fake you've never seen.
