GAZING WITH INTEREST, by Heavyconsumer on Apr 20, 2009 17:45:12 GMT 1, Beautiful piece mate! Just brilliant! The cardboard gives it a kind of 3D element and draws attention to the larger character and the right hand side of the piece imo, so in a way it's nice that the bottom RH corner is less figurative. It's also refreshing that you brought the environmental element into it with the birds giving identity to the colours there. I love it!

Btw, I still think there's another few gears in you yet though

GAZING WITH INTEREST, by Danny O'Connor on Apr 24, 2009 12:05:52 GMT 1, Another new piece titled "Coming To The Fore" 102x86cm/40"x34" Acrylic, Emulsion, Spraypaint, Correction Marker, Gloss and Cardboard Collage on Reclaimed Wood.
I spent most of my time on this piece on the background with the dynamic lines and shading, then to give it a sense of energy the foreground was done really quick with a roller, a bit of black and white paint for the details and some splashes of gloss.
All thoughts welcome again, Cheers all

GAZING WITH INTEREST, by Danny O'Connor on Apr 24, 2009 13:22:10 GMT 1, Cheers Joe, U can't beat a good bit of ripped corrugated cardboard to add depth of texture. I'm hoping to build up some future pieces with various bits and pieces to give a tactile feel to the work. Your work is lookin as shit hot as ever by the way
Here's a couple of close ups to keep U busy

GAZING WITH INTEREST, by Agent Provocateur on May 6, 2009 15:04:30 GMT 1, Doc, that Break Time piece is top quality
No matter how much I love the cardboard on the earlier paintings this stands out by a mile! There's fantastic texture and feeling in the brush strokes. The hands in themselves could probably tell a good story.
Lov it

GAZING WITH INTEREST, by Danny O'Connor on May 8, 2009 14:52:00 GMT 1, So I'm building this thread up with another new piece so it has a few pieces on to look at. The latest one is Gazing With Interest 40x30inch/102x76cm Acrylic and Emulsion on Canvas. I've bee working the slightly more monotone look again with hints of purple and burnt sienna. Again, let me know your thoughts.

I actually prefer the monotone look with subtle use of colour, really emphasises the angular/structural nature of your work
Nice one,

GAZING WITH INTEREST, by Danny O'Connor on May 8, 2009 15:10:08 GMT 1, Thanks fellas, I'm really into this palette myself at the moment, having lots of fun whilst painting so I reckon I'll probably be doing more, although I'm sure there will be more colour pieces too!

GAZING WITH INTEREST, by Agent Provocateur on May 8, 2009 15:19:03 GMT 1, Call me a sheep, but... I seem to prefer this more monotone palette doc
The new one's great, imo not as stunning as the Break Time piece, that one really works for me. I think it might be the extra contrast, from pure black to white, plus the single brush strokes on the face.

GAZING WITH INTEREST, by hlarmy on May 8, 2009 16:05:05 GMT 1, Seriously nice piece Danny; what I like about your work is the vibrancy and the use of colour - that was until I saw these last two. Loving the new direction.
I can't believe some of the work on you bigcartel hasn't been snapped up yet...
