Adam Koukoudakis - A name to watch!, by tomhills on Jan 24, 2007 18:41:14 GMT 1, good to see it's different strokes for different folks on here and the split in opinion is maybe just in adz favour. just get on this for one minute though; the artist has succeeded already, some may buy his work some may not. at least there are a lot of people talking about it, the sales will keep him going forward and producing more work which will hopefully again divide opinion. the day to lose hope is when no-ones talking about him. surely for an artist indifference is the worst opinion? it's all about getting a reaction. peace. BTW it's ยฃ500 for the smurf to those on here but as we all keep saying, if you like it then it doesn't matter - it's what it's worth to you.

Adam Koukoudakis - A name to watch!, by BK83 on Jan 24, 2007 20:11:47 GMT 1, I personally am not a fan -- his ideas are OK at best, and unfortunately, are executed poorly. hate to use Banksy in this comparison (because koukladis is no Banksy!) but what sets Banksy apart form so many up and coming subversive street artists is that Banksy's pieces have depth to them -- not just mentally but physically. sure they are spray painted stencils, but he also incorporates oil paint into those stencil images for shading and shadow effects. your eye does not see this detail at first because you are looking at a complete finished product/image, but if you look a little closer it is there. take happy choppers for instance look at the shadowing and detail on the helicopters and the pink bows.
This koukladis guy is very VERY amatuer -- maybe he is an accomplished artist and that is an aesthetic he is going for -- an unfinished raw sort of look, but I highly doubt it -- his images and paintings do'nt convey this level of artistic talent. It just looks to me like this Koukladis character is a high school kid who lives at home and makes paintings in his parents basement -- not that theres anything wrong with that!
To each his own!

Adam Koukoudakis - A name to watch!, by donkeydaddy on Jan 26, 2007 13:13:16 GMT 1, I'm loving Adam's work and have ordered a smurf canvas and a Father with Bleedin' son canvas. I'm buying them because I love the images and because I think he is an artist with great potential. We are now only looking at his 'early' stuff and if you remember, some of Banksy's early work was rough around the edges (albeit it was largely on the streets and his canvases were probably cheaper). Give Adam the time to develop his art, his ideas and his execution, and the quality of work will follow I'm sure. As it is, I'd be more than happy to also have Cheeky F*****' Pigz, Bleedin' Kid and FUCCCTV on my wall as well and that's from his 'early' stuff! Whether his work goes up in value? That would be nice, but if not I'll be happy with what I've got

I disagree that banksys stuff is detailed - napalm to me looks half finshed, as does queen vic, all the rats are very basic and most of the prints are not stencils but just altered photos with the contrast turned up.....not that it bothers me or banksy, i'm just saying.

Adam Koukoudakis - A name to watch!, by irf2112 on Feb 20, 2007 0:12:17 GMT 1, I dont buy art because the 'artist' has attended a certain college etc. I think thats pompus and street artist is the opposite of the 'poncy' art establisment.
As for Adam, my opinion is my own. Some of Adams stuff is ok some is not to my liking. But hey that's art. If he floats your boat - great. And good luck to him.
But for sheer cleverness you have guys like Mr.Aitch who can do this:
And for a fraction of the price... But then are you buying art because you like it or are you trying to back the next horse that wins the grand national...
