BANKSY Film "Exit Through The Gift Shop", by skitch on Mar 6, 2010 0:41:24 GMT 1, Just got back from screen on the green in islington, very interesting documentary. Banksy cool as ever but the film has taken my hatred of Mr. Brainwash to a different level..always knew his "artwork" was unoriginal, photoshoped shit, the film has confirmed this in a BIG way. I also think banksy was (in between the lines) putting across how ridiculous the whole MBW boom is ... Also great Shepard Fairey & invader footage. enjoyed it!

BANKSY Film "Exit Through The Gift Shop", by wahman on Mar 6, 2010 21:08:50 GMT 1, just back... loved it! so did my old man, really interesting. as said great invader and fairey footage. a first i admired MBW's dedication to filming and tracking down the street artists and following them etc... but they way he conducts his own 'art' left me cold. banksy, a legend as usual! will go see it again for sure!
awesome film...

BANKSY Film "Exit Through The Gift Shop", by m@san on Mar 7, 2010 0:27:05 GMT 1, Just had the worst experience ever watching this film at ODEON Holloway Road. The film cut out twice during the performance and I'm not sure if I may have missed something. I went to see Inglorious Basterds here and they showed 15 minutes of completely the wrong film before they noticed. Incompetent Basterds more like!! .... I will go and complain tomorrow as the delay tonight would have meant missing last orderes in my local! Note : avoid seeing at the ODEON, Holloway Road

BANKSY Film "Exit Through The Gift Shop", by muti on Mar 7, 2010 13:35:11 GMT 1, Not sure if anyone has mentioned this but I met up with a few forum members on Friday at the Curzon in Soho, had a cracking night.. at the end as we were leaving someone had left behind some artwork just outside the door for anyone to take, not sure if anyone on here got one, it features a Banksy Di faced tenner rolled up and a 'rat' shape made out of cocaine with a razor blade. It was numbered but no signature, just thought if anyone had clocked these and might know who they were by?

Coming to a multiplex near you!!!

BANKSY Film "Exit Through The Gift Shop", by naughtyshorty on Mar 9, 2010 22:27:32 GMT 1, so just seen it... interesting as a documentary, but not one for the cinema? made me think a couple of things:
- how much of all art is just fabricated sh1t? - how many other artists are out there like MBW who treat it as a commercial business, and does that make the art any worse? - was that really banksy in the interview chair? i'm not sure it was - seemed like an "expressive actor who talks with his hands".. other footage of banksy during the film showed he was married, had a silver chain on his left hand and silver watch.. the guy being interviewed had none of these
just some thoughts...

funny you should say that, i took my mother & she said exactly the same thing!
"it might be banksy's voice but it certainly wasn't coming from the mouth of the man sitting in that chair"
if that's the case, i wonder why?

Oh come on guys...you couldn't see the mouth so why say it wasn't coming from his mouth. I'm sure he's got 20 minutes to spare for his appearance in the movie, don't look for a reason for him not to. No conspiracy, no other person...just Banksy. There isn't even really a point questioning it, it there?

BANKSY Film "Exit Through The Gift Shop", by rowan on Mar 10, 2010 12:33:35 GMT 1, So the cinema in Aberdeen is finally getting the film in ont he 19th.. But it is only listed until the 25th and i come back for a visit on the 26th.. Hopefully they have yet to put up the newer listings..
Guess it worked out for the best, having the release delayed in ABDN! Well unless i dont get to see it! But i doubt they'll only have it in or a week!

"Avalon Distribution has taken theatrical rights for Spain to Banksy documentary Exit Through The Gift Shop, following the film’s positive reaction at Sundance and Berlin. Avalon sealed the deal with Cinetic International and plans to release the film in the autumn. Exit Through The Gift Shop charts the relationship between the celebrated graffiti artist Banksy and a French videographer Thierry Guetta who befriends him and ultimately pursues his own artistic ambitions. Banksy is featured throughout the film in shadow as he recalls events through a voice modifier. Welsh actor Rhys Ifans narrates. Jaimie D’Cruz produced and Holly Cushing and James Gay-Rees served as executive producers. Cinetic has already sold the film to Madman for Australia and Revolver for the UK, who released it in cinemas at the end of last week."

Well, for a guy who is hugely secretive, filming in a location where you're going to need 10+ people to do the footage (sound, lighting, cameras, runner, producer, director etc) that's a lot of people that are going to see him for 20mins + of filming, as well as the fact that all these people are coming into his secret studio.. if you believe that was his actual studio, rather than a mocked up one with a few banksys in the background (i'm not disputing the other scenes were in his studio, just the interview ones).
plus, from the intonnation from his voice, maneurisms and gesticulation, if you came into regular contact with banksy, but didnt know who he was, you would have a pretty good idea from watching that film. If i was banksy, i certainly wouldnt use my voice, and i certainly wouldnt be filmed like that.. if you were banksy, would you?
As for wiki and removal of rings ok true true, but the point is the footage pre interview of him was over a period of time, not just one point, and all of those things were consistently on him during that period, but they all disappeared when it came to the interview shot. Plus, in the interview in the Sunday Times, he acknolwedges a Mrs B, so there is a wife, but not for the guy in the interview...
does it really matter? nope. do i have too much time on my hands and am i too oberservational for my own good? probably. but i think the only time we saw Banksy in the film was during the outside graff bits...
