I agree. I couldn't resist getting the Vaidade though. It is one of my favorites over the last year.

Faile Print & Original Release, by holden on Mar 19, 2010 3:08:26 GMT 1, Have to agree. Why do they feel the need to release nearly every image from a show that closed over 16 months ago as a print?! $$$$$$$ ;D
Quality Street innit.
For me, Amongst all those yukky strawberry and minty things there's a nice hazelnut praline
For you, Amongst all those yukky praline and toffee things there's a nice minty or strawberry one
Despite no one (I know) liking them, Everyone is a coffee one!

Faile Print & Original Release, by silvermyn on Mar 19, 2010 11:10:38 GMT 1, Buying a new Faile print these days is a bit like buying a new car IMO. The minute you drive it off the forecourt a brand new car looses a large % of its value. Generally, the dearer the car the larger the % drop seems to be. The minute pull the trigger on a new Faile print you're $'s/ยฃ's out of the money too.
At these prices, buying a new Faile print you are pretty much guaranteed to lose money on it should you need to sell for whatever reason. Very few can afford to be in that position for a print that they are only luke warm about at best. I'm not suggesting the prints should be underpriced but they do seem to be around twice the price they might reasonably warrant on the open market.
As others have already mentioned, the secondary market offers much better value for collectors. To draw on the the earlier parallel, I'd much rather take a chance on a second hand BMW than shell out for a brand new one. The financial side should not be the driver with the art we like but it does matter a huge deal to most.
10 ways is the winner for me and the other prints look fab too but at these prices I have to pass.

Faile Print & Original Release, by alexnh123 on Mar 19, 2010 11:11:22 GMT 1, vaidade looks lazy; the tiger face doesn't sit right imo. I think these guys are stuck up their own rses in terms of their pricing structure. Bast p.i.sse.s on these guys; and i get the impression they sort of patronise him with their higher profile, which I don't think they quite warrant. Bastโs one man efforts are loaded with so much more raw energy than anything the Patrick duo, and no doubt their assistants throw together. They've got too comfortable churning out this graphic design. Needless to say i won't be buying this or anything from them and i sort of look fwd to their demise. Bast is slowly knocking them off the pedestal that they've put themselves on. You can go ahead and shoot me down, but Iโm wearing a bullet proof vest on this one! (Iโm the terminator, you can't kill me!)

Faile Print & Original Release, by Karl Read on Mar 19, 2010 11:17:05 GMT 1, Bast IMO is knowhere near the quality of Faile! I dont think he is coming anywhere close to them profile wise either. I think Faile should of stayed together, 2 Pat's, Bast and Aiko, prefered it then. They need to come up with some new imagery.

Faile Print & Original Release, by alexnh123 on Mar 19, 2010 11:45:35 GMT 1, true that, at the very least! Bast is an artist. Faile have gone all production line. They're in danger of sailing very close to the wind of being a brand. Horses for courses though. Time will tell, but then again even that isn't the be all and end all. Personal preference now and in the future is what should reign supreme!

Couldn't agree more with the Bast comment. I think he's streets ahead, and the longer it takes for people to catch up with him the better. Though I admit i'm comming at this from a fans point of view. (Do like "vaidade" though)

Faile Print & Original Release, by adewilliams on Mar 19, 2010 12:31:14 GMT 1, interesting argument with bast and faile both having prints available at the moment on their respective websites, and both artists seem to have priced the work a little high for most consumers. I personally favor faile but don't see a huge difference in what each are doing. Both excellent. Good luck to them - maybe the trend of selling at below market value is dwindling, I hope so.

you obviously have strong, but in my opinion unfounded beliefs. fuck knows why you would like to see the demise of Faile, utter nonsense. But each to their own. Do you have a large collection of Bast works?

Faile Print & Original Release, by spaceshrew on Mar 19, 2010 12:52:47 GMT 1, The last Faile i bought was Star spangled, i thought it was OK, but at $350 was prepared to take a chance, very fairly priced, and guess what it looks amazing framed and on the wall.
I'm sure some of these would look equally as good framed, but at $2000, who can afford to take that chance, i know i can't.
I like '10 ways' and IMO it's the strongest image, simply because it's from the time i found Faile the most exciting, but i don't love it enough to pull the trigger.

Faile Print & Original Release, by Daniel Silk on Mar 19, 2010 13:35:08 GMT 1, I think these kind or priced pieces by Faile are a good idea. I get the impression a lot of people only wish they were cheaper so they could make a profit flipping them on I think Faile have done this coz thats what they think they are really worth Simple as that! Yes, I know your gonna say you can get pieces on ebay cheaper, and your probably right all that goes to show is you can pick up some bargains on ebay.

Faile Print & Original Release, by daveart on Mar 19, 2010 13:42:10 GMT 1, personally i would rather see all artists price their work at a price that it takes a week or a month to sell out all the impressions. gives you a chance to consider it. talk it over. think about framing. etc. rather than trying to make a split second decision on a large purchase. look at all the art galleries in the world.. they dont have things priced so that they sell out instantly. i believe the reason there are some left is they are the weaker images. the impressions with stronger colors sold first - as they should have. strong images from FAILE will sell fine at this price point - for now - but who knows about the future. a run of 23 is practically an original in the art world these days -- id put even these weaker FAILE prints ahead of the last few from Banksy - (donuts/vlh) just an opinion of course :-)

Faile Print & Original Release, by alexnh123 on Mar 19, 2010 13:44:40 GMT 1, Free speech Ronald; Yes I do have strong beliefs, and I was prepared to air them. I'm well aware, and more than willing to accept that they are not beliefs shared by everyone, and Iโm glad of that (high 5 darhart!). I don't see how you can say my views are unfounded. They are no less valid than yours. Ok; demise was the wrong, if not too strong a word to use. I simply mean Iโd like to see them brought down a peg or two; or at least see a levelling out of the hierarchy between Faile and Bast. Each to their own though indeed. It's just that for me; Faile are U2, whilst Bast is suitably more Iggy Pop or something! Definitely more punk anyway. Let's say; willing to be a little more dirty, exposed and unconventional. Both are talented; but Faile aren't willing to suffer for their work; I donโt know if Bast takes drugs (sometimes I wonder!) but I bet you Faile wouldnโt go that far for their work! With their success; I can only imagine they are going to get more and more commercial in their output. Faile are number one, x-factor winning radio 1 fodder, whereas Bast is 6 music โ and we all know the arguments for fighting for 6 music! Long live 6 music. Ron I look fwd to your predictable; โyouโre on drugs mateโ retorts!

Faile Print & Original Release, by Daniel Silk on Mar 19, 2010 13:57:48 GMT 1, Good post Daveart
Yeah, I wonder that some Artists are afraid to price work that little bit higher, coz they know other Artists will happily undercut them and sell Art for practically cost to gain a following of collectors Its a tricky game, but I think Faile are now well beyond worrying about stuff like that. Faile have solidly "Made it" and could easily sit back now and just sell ยฃ5,000+ pieces with very little problems.

Faile Print & Original Release, by geoffw on Mar 19, 2010 14:09:09 GMT 1, Alex you're talking rubbish IMO. Faile haven't suffered for their art? Did you not notice they've just had a 10 year retrosepctive show on? 10 years is a long time to be making art, of any description and they didn't start on Day 1 with a sold out show with each print at ยฃ1000.
And to use your terrible analogy. Iggy Pop's punk huh? He suffered? Yeah he was in a "seminal" band (and i'm a huge fan) but he's now doing insurance ads to pay the bills.
This idea that there's something 'romantic' about suffering and struggling is always perpetrated by people who've never had to struggle a day in their lives to make ends meet or put food on the table.

Faile Print & Original Release, by alexnh123 on Mar 19, 2010 14:11:12 GMT 1, it probably has, i wouldn't know.
Faile have been boring for the majority of those 10 years. They started out using clip art, then they watched a warhol dvd and started upping their game a bit, but you can't polish a turd.
Iggy pop was an example; there were better ones i could've used but i don't have all day to perfect my posts. (insert name of anyone who doesn't tailor their output to fit in with the requirements of capital fm's playlist). You know what i'm getting at.
Iggy is still grafting. His output has always been honest and heartfelt. Faile now are tiresome. Bast now is exciting and i think he should be recognised for that. and there is something romantic about suffering, and or being rock n roll. Keith Richards. Basquiat; why are they so succesfu d'you think? BAS-quia-T.

Know the feeling mate..
Top film....Maybe we should prostitute ourselves too.
alexnh123 - I disagree with your points. I can only assume you've never seen a Faile print in person?

Fair enough. My opinion is formed from many years of being passionately involved, as a fan and spectator, in the scene as a whole; seeing works in situ; seeing works others own, the few pieces i have; seeing works in galleries, shows, auctions; internet; books; photos; flickr, closeups etc etc. i don't hate faile btw! i just prefer bast. This conversation is over for everyone's sake!
