For a long time the 'Rat' series (with the exception of the 'Radar Rat' of course) has not really been that highly regarded when compared to the other Banksy POW editions around that time. Now it seems that suddenly they are receiving the recognition they deserve and are becoming much more desirable.
Any one got any opinions as to why?

Basically, the rats and the smiling copper ARE Banksy! They might be his 'simplest' prints but when all said and done I think they are THE image that instantly associates him with his street work!

Its bizarre. For some reason - even Ive now got the ursge to get some rats having never really liked them in the past. Now I think they're awesome. Ive kind of got that 'Print OCD' thought. Its either all of them or none. Aaaargh!

think it hails back to the time of heavy weaponary and bar code, when Banksy was born and all of a sudden there were rats doing the most bizarre things.
At the time though, i don't think art lovers wanted to put a rat on the wall...
now it's more about being a classic banksy!

You can't beat them. Rats have a real, long time connection with his street stuff. the missus doesn't like having a rat on the wall but come on! All Banksy fans must think they look the dogs! ;D

Had them up on the bedroom wall for a while, dcided better of the bad frame. Posted the pic below earlier on another thread, but like it so am posting again

I love my Gangsta Rat, and so does my wife. I wish I could have had a print of the Rat with the paint roller who had just painted a heart, like the one on the door in Liverpool. Speaking of Liverpool. they have taken the frame down from around the big Rat/Cat on the Whitehouse Pub. Hope this is a good sign. Maybe someone told the City Council what Culture means.

Yep, Rats are very iconically Banksy. I'm glad they're finally getting the recognition they deserve. A year ago, I wanted to own a few pieces that were just classic Banksys, and I chose the "Because I'm worthless" rat, Have a Nice Day, and Bomb Hugger. Luckily the rats were still relatively unpopular at that time, and I got one on eBay for only £325. An even greater bargain was a Have a Nice Day for only £825!

Love rat is an anagram of Vole Art which is the direction I want to see Banksy move towards. Rats are so 2004. Bring on the Vole Art!

I was thinking exactly the same thing. Art has yet to exploit voles. Little f**kers.
