BANKSY Works from the Collection of Andipa Gallery Exhibition Dates: Thursday 23 April – Saturday 16 May 2009 Andipa Gallery is proud to present a selling exhibition of rare works by the UK’s leading urban artist, Banksy, including the largest canvas ever to come on the market. All of the works on display are from the gallery’s collection, built up over the last three years. Andipa was the first gallery to put on a major exhibition of Banksy’s work in the secondary market, showcasing one of the largest collections of the artist’s work. Over 25,000 people visited the gallery during the exhibition in 2008 to view one of the most extensive private surveys of the artist’s work brought together in recent years; many visitors queuing up to an hour for entry. This exhibition will show only original canvases, such as Are You Using That Chair (2005) which will take centre stage. Measuring over four meters in length, this is the largest canvas by Banksy to have come onto the market. The work is based on Edward Hopper’s well-known painting Nighthawks (1942). Another work to be included is an original oil on canvas depicting a traditional portrait of an English Lord struck by a custard pie. Also to be included is a mini canvas portraying a monkey wearing a placard with the inscription ‘Keep it Real’ – a befitting statement in today’s environment. A very helpful person at Andipa took my card details no problem, but said the catalogue was currently in print and that it wouldn't be sent out until sometime next week.

hmmm, if this show has original canvases only, then why are there a couple of edition pieces and a Girl With Balloon print in the show? You're looking at the collection - have you seen a listing of exhibited works?

Andipa ;D I have never had any invites to any official Banksy events but its not an official Banksy event, why are you making it sound like it is? Its not been endorsed by Banksy or any of his representatives, its is a secondary market resellers show, with the exception of 1 or 2 pieces including Nighthawks, its the same old stuff he had in his show from last year - end of!!! We all know its not an official Banksy show, and I have never said it was

>>>but its not an official Banksy event, why are you making it sound like it is? It is a secondary market resellers show, end of!!! <<<< And that matters to you how? From my vantage point, it's nice collection of Banksy work and if I lived anywhere near London, I would certainly be there tomorrow night. Does it bother you to visit museums since their collections are pieced together and not the original release or show that the artist intended? Or is it simply the fact that the work if for sale? Regardless, I don't have many (if any) rules that would prohibit me from going to see a collection of work from an artist I admire. If I understand you correctly, you would loathe the current Picasso show at Gagosian which is a shame from my vantage point. www.gagosian.com/exhibitions/2009-03-26_pablo-picasso/#/images/1/

matters to me because i dont want to be mislead in to believing this is an "official" show, when its not. Calm down mate! nobody said it was. Just slow down a bit and read posts a couple of times before jumping at them and accusing them of stuff thats not true. Chill

I have to say that imo all this ridiculous nit-picking over each and every word used by Andipa to market their show, and the negative if not downright spiteful tone used, does not reflect very well on those that are doing it.
In the flyer posted by ALB above, I really don't think they could have been much clearer about exactly what this show is and what it is not. I for one am looking forward to seeing it.

Agree This sort of bickering between galleries is all a bit sad

It's not that funny or surprising - most of the people on this site sound like jumped up schoolboys with nothing better to do than to 'point things out'
