Just Received the Swoon chipboard piece..., by numusic on Dec 9, 2007 20:38:53 GMT 1, looks a bit A-Level art to me, she can do so much more but everyones rushing to make a quick buck off her. IMO she should stop with all this print making.
Funnily enough, was thinking exactly the same thing.. churning out waaayy too much stuff these days. Bought the last "chipboard", yet to receive it... but.. was round my girls parents place last night, went for a piss... and staring me in the face.. some horrible net curtains... could have sworn it was a Swoon design. Put me right off... talk about girlfriend friendly, these are becoming grandma friendly
PS : this from a big Swoon fan..

I can't agree with this at all. She has "churned out" three commercial prints this year - 2 with papermonster and 1 with BRP. They were editions of 80, 90 and 150. In total that is about half the size of a trolleys colour release and about a third the size of Micallef's GIWTBB.
The other prints she has released, IIRC were all for charity - the 2 justseeds prints and the Miss Rockaway armada print.
Nearly each one of the prints she has released this year have been pretty different from each other - the hand finished Helena on graph paper, the 2 mylar prints, the chipboard print, the screenprint from BRP and the one colour small print from justseeds. So even if you bought all of them there would still be a lot of variation.

what are you talking about? her "originals" are still prints, just becasue they are not huge editions doesn't make them any different. Swoon is a printmaker, thats what she is , end of story.

still 6 prints in 6 months or so.. plus the two on adhoc rumoured to be 2 editions of 250, that'd be 8.. a new print every 4 weeks. I should have maybe rephrased it to read.. "it feels like she's churning out waaaayy to much" these days... I mean, she never used to do print runs at all really... well, not on this scale. Small one offs and originals. I guess demand is there though... but a bit overkill the last few months for me.

Exactly, which is why she maybe shouldn't be using other print houses to make and distribute her stuff.

Just Received the Swoon chipboard piece..., by buster on Dec 9, 2007 21:20:54 GMT 1, They're just all a little "meh" Not many skulls, bombs, guns, wings, hard to ignore obvious political statments etc..... I like them because they are nice, quite raw pieces. No great amount of thought needed to appreciate them, no need to analyse, different and easily identifiable.

From talking to someone at BRP about her prints with them apparently she had a huge input into determining how the prints would be made. Given how serious she is about her work I'm pretty sure that all the prints released had her seal of approval.
I thought you were keen on democratising the ownership of art nu? By her releasing these prints she gives lots of people the chance to own her work for a reasonable sum. You don't have to buy all of them if you don't want to.
I would personally prefer an artist to release a few prints every year in small editions than 1 or 2 prints in huge editions.

Just Received the Swoon chipboard piece..., by robertlondon on Dec 9, 2007 22:35:55 GMT 1, Were not the chipboard jobbie and the one armed boy both released within the period of a week? For so long she released very little in the form of editions.
Now she has print incontinence.
imo (of course)

yeah, maybe I agree, not sure.. I guess It's difficult for me to be objective as I own a few originals... as for the democratisation of the ownership of art.. absolutely.. but does every single artist have to churn out prints ? Swoon could knock off 250 original prints in an afternoon..

Your view is just as valid as mine buffin. A lot of people don't get swoon. Have you seen any of her work in the flesh? If not you should.
