probably the only one that thinks its a cop out, using an image he has had for years and then doing it on a wall.
clap clap. nice feet though.
Nothing worse than putting up an obvious ad for your forthcoming show, using imagery from it in a cynical ploy to get visitors........... Oh hang on a minute its from a show now shut in a location hundreds of miles away, this looks to me to be a follow on from ikea man.
THE ELUSIVE, international street artist Banksy may have chosen a Tottenham letting agent's wall for his latest canvas.
A distinctive stencilled work of two children playing catch with a "no ball games" sign is definitely by the world-renowned graffiti artist, whose original works have sold for more than £100,000 at auction, according to fans.
The graffiti, which uses Banksy's trademark stencilled style and sense of humour, appeared over the weekend opposite the junction of Tottenham High Road and Philip Lane.
Graffiti fan and trainee housing officer Kimberley Winter, 24, who lives off Philip Lane, said: "I am 99.9 per cent sure it is an original Banksy. I have been a Banksy fan for years, and I know my fakes. The sheer size of the piece and the message it has is typical Banksy humour.
"I was just walking past and immediately recognised it. Tottenham was the last place I expected to see a Banksy."
Miss Winter, a Banksy Appreciation Society member on social network web site Facebook, added: "I have spoken to the owner of the building and they really don't grasp the importance. I really hope this will stay.
"It is quite apt for an area like Tottenham, because a lot of the estates have got signs up stopping kids from playing football."
Anton Shelupanov, of nearby High Cross Road, said: "You never know, but it looks genuine. If it is, it has probably doubled the value of that building. I have always told people Tottenham is a great place to live, and there is a lot going on in terms of the subculture. I think it is a sign of the times."
There has even been excited talk that the work could push up house prices in the area, and Councillor Isidoros Diakides, whose Tottenham Green ward the work sits in, also declared himself a fan.
He said: "I think it is worth preserving, and personally I am a fan. It just confirms that Tottenham is coming up as an art hub! I think Banksy is quite wise coming here."
He added: "Obviously we have a graffiti control policy, but I think it is not offensive and people do see it generally as art, and I don't think there will be any objections to it."
He said he would "definitely object" if the work came under threat, if it proved to be a genuine Banksy.
A spokesman for the landlord of the building said: "It is the first time I have heard his name, but they say it is something worth preserving.
"It's become a very popular site; photographers from as far as Leeds,Birmingham and Bristol were there yesterday.
"Had I not known it was somebody famous I would most probably have had it removed almost straight away.
"But if it is something that's enjoyed and valued by the community then maybe we should look at preserving it."
A large perspex sheet was due to be erected in front of the work today (Thursday) to help preserve it.
A Haringey Council spokeswoman said: "We will be happy to talk with the owners of the property about this.
