Greatly influenced by one of my elder brothers I purchased Public Enemy's Yo Bum Rush the Show on tape... I didn't have a record player in my bedroom and CD's were for the rich (I was a kid on a below-minimum pocket money allowance). Then I discovered the local library and to my amazement they had quite a few hip hop albums on tape and CD. This is where the pirating began Again an 11 year old doesnt really know the laws of copyright (I used to even photocopy the tape/cd sleeves...)
Cool CD I've got that one too, by the late 80's it was MC Tunes & 808 State and Beasties for me as well.
As for the British stuff it was Cash Crew, Caveman, SilverBullet, Hijack, MC Duke, RRA... Good times for British Hip Hop...
i had the biggest crush on their lead singer..thought she well cool!
DITTO!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;D
Me too but then along came Kim Wilde, but now she's a frumpy housewife telling me too buy more multi-vitamins from Holland and Barrett what went wrong with the world ;D
first single I ever bought was from Woolworths (LOL) and was something by Depeche Mode. (can't remember what now) - otherwise it was Madness - Tomorrow's (Just Another Day) - which a quick Google tells me was released in 1983

LOL She even opens the add by saying " Hello, I'm Kim Wilde" The advert producer must have realised no one would recognise her now!!!!! ;D
I did the same - flogged mine on eBay for 150 quid when I was a student...
20:20 hindsight, huh? Reminds me of some of the unforunate decisions I made re: not buying prints by a certain graffiti artist, because 100 quid seemed like a lot to spend for a bit of paper. D'Oh!

Mine was the Drill EP by Radiohead. I had no idea who they were, but my older brother used to instruct me as to which indie singles were the 'right' ones to buy.
Where i went to school was a chart return shop... so it used to be filled with major label tat at giveaway prices.
They had a massive stack of 'Drill' CDs for 10p each. They now go for what, £200?
I bought the cassette for 5p! Sold it for about £40 a couple of years ago.
Had to put this one on, I named my daughter after it! Eloise by the Damned. CLASSSSSSSSS!!!!
Love that track, must have been the tour they did around the same time that I saw them (not quite old enough to be a proper punk ), Dave Vanian bought his girlfriend on stage to sing smash it up, she was VERY well dressed not at all punk, so we all gobbed on her as you do and he totally threw his toys out the pram stropped off and wouldn't do an encore. Think he was still pissed off that Dr and the Medics got loads of encores, just not the done thing for a support act.

grrrrr Kim Wilde or the lead singer out of the Bangles - Lusted after those two when I was a sprog.
I bought the Animal Kwackers double album. I still from time to time find myself singing their theme tune. I played that record to death.
Animal Kwackers, Animal Kwackers Bongo, Rory, Twang and Boots.
These lads shat all over the Banana Splits.
Only dwelling in the present can make us free.We have to look into our suffering, our craving. And when we see it's face we will smile: you cannot make me your prisoner any more.
Err... the first record I bought was 'The Lion Sleeps Tonight' by Tight Fit!
Nowt wrong with that - I played it out a couple of weeks ago and people loved it!!
First 7" - Salt n Pepa - Push it First 12" - two on same day - Tricky Disco's Tricky Disco and Kid Unknown's Nightmare walking' bleep tastic Warp releases.
Last 7" - Lady Sovereign, an Adrock remix Last 12" - Kode 9 - Find may way (i had this on CDR for ages...)

When I was 11 years old (that was in 1968), I bought the single : "Sunny Afternoon / I'm not like everybody else". This must be the first one i really "bought", before that I got some singles as presents from my parents : some French singers and also Hair (Aquarius), Zager & Evans (In the Year 2525), etc... After that first Kinks single, I bought zillions of others. My first 3 albums were : Cosmos Factory (Creedence Clearwater Revival), Dylan's greatest hits and Beatles' Let it be (this was their last album and my first by them, i bought it on the very day it was released ! )... I still have those records in my collection. Actually, I still listen to much more vinyls than CDs ( I hate Cds !) as I have more than 2000 vinyl albums and about as many singles and EPs ! For a longer list of the bands and musicians I like, have a look at my myspace page : www.myspace.com/jefaerosol And for much more words and pics about the music I've loved for more than 40 years, read my book ! (VIP Very Important Pochoirs, jef aérosol 2007, éditions alternatives, Paris) jef
ps : listening to "Travellin Band" (Creedence CR) right now ! After all these years, I just can't get fed up with that music !
