Congrats... that was probably the most pointless response i've read on the Banksy forum yet. I'm not sure if you were attempting to earn heady points, but boy let me tell you... you have earned them! You are WAY cooler than the rest of us.

22 Artists, 1 sculpter & a shit load of paint, by pristine on Apr 12, 2009 4:01:08 GMT 1, In response to this.... I thought generally there was quite a lot of new stuff at the show. I agree that a few of the images have been seen before but only via the net so for me it was great to see stuff in the flesh. When you say 'uninspired' I think you're being unnecessarily cruel, there's a lot of craft in some of those pieces and I'd like to see you do any better. Also, if you'd been there today at the live paint, you could of probably picked something up for free or for 20 quid or less. We all contributed to covering a whole transit van for free - the bloke and his misses drove off very happy.
Yeah. So there, graeme501! K-Guy certainly put you in your place.
You have the nerve to criticise an actor's performance in a film? I'd like to see you act better with a camera in your face! You thought the band sucked on stage tonight? Really? Why don't you rock out and we'll see how you do with a guitar. You say that skyscraper is not in keeping with the surrounding architecture? Well, let's see you build a better one, you fuckhead. So there.

I made a 450 mile round trip and a hotel and think is was well worth the time and trouble Bring on more diversity in shows and new talent Well done to everyone

There was a good mix of pieces there too which was good.

22 Artists, 1 sculpter & a shit load of paint, by Pistol on Apr 12, 2009 14:43:04 GMT 1, Totally agree with some of the comments made and disagree with others. This is a great show and I know alot of hard work went into it. I think with all the prices you have to remember there are also overheads to cover. Lots of posts to say 'enjoyed the free beer' yeah I did too but who pays for that? The gallery was a tatty old junk shop. How did that all of a sudden become such an impressive little gallery? I don't know all the artists personally but the ones I know are great guys and really enjoy what they do. I have pieces from alot of those artists that were given to me free. Can anyone really begrudge them making a bit of money from what they do? Constructive criticism is fine but enthusiasm and hard work should always be encouraged! ;D

Saying that i should also get out more too, Last night i was dreaming about art, and in my dream i was blagging Damien Hirst by telling him the i liked his print but was not happy about the boarder so was trying to get him to knock the price down ;D am i the only one who has started dreaming about art?

not everyone will love what you do, especially when stuff is priced at ยฃ500+, so expect a few comments, this is a street art forum, not a 'we love everything about street art unequivically' website

Yes , and the same could be said about the comments left by some members (in both sense of the word)

22 Artists, 1 sculpter & a shit load of paint, by Agent Provocateur on Apr 12, 2009 19:42:53 GMT 1, The discussion 'bout cost will always be a sticky one, especially in these hards times.
It's never easy to put a figure on work (even the established guys get serious discussions on it). How many hours were put in, complexity, size, equipment, paint, canvases etc. And to be perfectly honest in the end it's down to the value the artist puts on their own work.
I just think it all comes out in the rub, if it's too expensive or an image no one wants then they probably won't sell. But if it's a great image that a number of people like and the cost is doable then there's a market.
I think this is an amazing time for street/urban/graffiti/stencil art, there are great established artists and fantastic upcoming ones too... tonnes of exhibitions, live events, originals, canvases, prints, wood, cardboard and nearly everything else!
I don't look at a painting with value in mind when I first see it, but if I like it I'll see if it's in my ballpark... usually well out of reach tho. But that's not the point, I never thought I'd have an art collection, let alone be buying in the most contemporary and exciting movement (I think that statement may be wrong!), but DAMN IT I'm having a great time ;D
Enjoy the art, buy some, meet great people, have a few beers... and carry on, that's my philosophy
Just my opinion
MJ quality stash ;D Love the Don canvas, my little beauty on paper is near the top of the framing pile!

Will be back down another eve to get a proper look, fair play to all involved i think it looks like a belting show.....

22 Artists, 1 sculpter & a shit load of paint, by snik on Apr 13, 2009 17:23:54 GMT 1, was a top notch day, the sort of event you wish was on every single weekend.
people moan about costs, that you could get a piece by a more respected artists blah blah. but if your buying a piece for the name of the artist, and not the quality of work, your in this for the wrong reasons. i would say that the quality of work was amazing, and the prices were fair. but thats my opinion, and i guess forums are for sharing opinions.
ive got some pics of the day on my flickr - www.flickr.com/photos/snikk/ sorry but im too lazy to post up here
much respect to grafter for putting it on, and for all the artists i met on the day. heres to another happening soon

FWIW Snik, your work at the show (from the jpegs) looks GREAT and I thoroughly enjoyed checking it out in the "new artists" section here too - really sharp, striking stencils that look like a lot of work goes into them and a great finished effect. But I wouldn't dream of paying you a monkey+ for something you could reproduce several times an hour if the fancy took you, unless I deemed it to have some resale value later, as like many/most of the collectors in this scene, my budget is limited and I like to have the option of changing my collection round from time to time.
I have and will continue to support artists from this forum and think it's a vital roll those of us without talent can play in trying to help new artists make it and contribute to this scene. We're your market talking to you! Whether you choose to listen or not is up to you, but please don't question the values we employ in our collecting, or how often we leave our keyboards (Grafter), as it really isn't the point here.
It wasn't having a dig and have tried to be respectful, but the point is, a supporting body of work, previous success and current demand, does affect the price of art. If I'm gonna drop ยฃ50 on something for the wall, I can totally write it off, but for ยฃ500 I want to know it has some kind of residual value. Can you support asking that money by showing ebay sales or any other recorded price-points for your work in this ball-park, or are the figures plucked from thin air? If the latter is true, while your work may be cheap to most art collectors, it seems a bit pricey for a scene which revolves around an "art for the people" principal.
PRO.... QUALITY! Sounds like a fantastic workshop/performance art event and I'd have loved to have been able to experience it, but he hasn't hit the nail on the head at all. Have you checked out the prices of their work online? I can pick up the Dan McCarthy print for USD$47 (shipped) and it's a stunner!!! I bought a print for USD$85 the other day from a guy with 27 pages of gig poster art (Jeff Wood) over on EB!!! Perhaps more relevant is that in Jef Aerolsol's forum, he offers commissions for the same sort of money these guys want - how many gallery shows has he done?!!! The list goes on. I don't think we're moaning about price, I think we're pointing out that these guys are being unreasonable with their pricing. There's a big difference. And take note, the only people who've come out and stated that on-line prices are fair, are the artists involved in the event. Just to reiterate, my comments are genuine and not intended to offend any of these artists, all of whom I respect and most of whose art I enjoy.
