Banksy • Flag GOLD, by snakes on Dec 17, 2007 0:48:41 GMT 1, ..also bear in mind that due to nature of the print (on chromalux paper), it is unlikely to stand the tests of time quite as favourably as the conventional prints will.
So is it worth more than a signed J&J?

It's maybe worth more than another print if you like it more.
But flag got 6 votes in the most liked banksy print poll. Not a strong showing. And if people try and fleece people for 5-6k for this print, well there are about 1000 unsigned prints to choose from for a mere £5-600, unless you're made of money like verbal, I don't think the market will bear that disparity.
shh, -1, must be quiet now, I'm upsetting the new gold flag owners

Banksy • Flag GOLD, by stuey09 on Dec 17, 2007 0:53:10 GMT 1, a print run of 112, which can only be bought in Bethlehem, so even before you consider selling it, you have to recoup £2K costs, to include flights, accommodation, cost of print, etc IMO if you can get it for £5k, that would be a good price. Does it really cost $4,000 to fly over there get a hotel for a night or two a few drinks maybe and and fly home? Even if so don't you get more out of the trip than just getting the print? The way I see it is this is an edition of 1112 prints now with 112 of them signed. The cost of the trip is your deal and I would assume that the price of the print will eventually be tempered by how much people like the image. The fact that you flew to Israel to get the print doesn't make me like the image any more. And I don't see why it should cost more than a signed jackjill or the like which is about £4k right now. Even less recently.
Print is sold in Bethlehem which is under Palestinian Authority. However, before the price for this print gets debated any further, may I point out that they can still be purchased at cost for 500 quid + some effort.

Afterall, a Banksy is a Banksy, and for an serious art collector/Banksy lover, they will pay whatever it takes to acquire one.
Its only my opinion - and not that of the market - I can also imagine the Gold Flag will probably appear in auctions rather than on Ebay.

Banksy • Flag GOLD, by stuey09 on Dec 17, 2007 1:07:37 GMT 1, I think you fully understood my point, which related to the fact that the print was purchased in Palestine, rather than Israel and for the several thousand Palestinians, that deliniation matters a great deal, so maybe they care. This was the whole fucking point of having SG in Bethlehem, to bring some attention to what is going on over there and not cheapen the concept by picking over secondary market prices.

gold or silver we do not discriminate.
The only thing that really sets it apart is the signature; and whether you like it or not people are only interested in the signature as Banksy's signature means stacks more money!
A shame really, but a true fact. If i were Banksy I'd stop doing to signatures altogether and not risk getting a RSI!

Just out of interest,
out of how many of the people who have been to the ghetto how many stayed in Palestine?
I may be wrong but my guess is that most people flew out on an Israeli / or Israeli sponsored airline, stayed in Israeli hotels and spent most of their spenders in Israel.
So other than buying their one Banksy print of which the proceeds go to Palestinian causes, it seems to me that it is Israel that is benefiting the most from the Ghetto tourists!
Ps. I am just an innocent by stander who watches and listens, i support neither side (just incase mossad are monitoring this thread).

Banksy • Flag GOLD, by morrissey1 on Dec 17, 2007 1:21:19 GMT 1, im surprised that anyone would be critical of verbalkint (correction) for asking for this print.....I don't think that making a request for something you can't physically get on your own is going to increase "flipping".....not everyone can get to Bethlehem, and for those who can't/don't, are they just supposed to never get the print they want because they couldn't make it there? No, of course not. Some flipping is absurd, blatant and ugly, but occassionally it does serve a purpose, and it does help some of us out who cant get certain things.....IMO

If they really weant this print that much i would suggest buying last years one and framing it under 'gold irridium' coated glass. (although dont quote me for costs).

Excellent point Snakes. I thought about that. El Al airlines are Israeli, so they will have picked up a few quid from this as will the other aspects of the tourist industry. At least some money will go to the Palestinian kids though. However, from what I was told, Banksy and those involved were not just seeking to raise money, but also awareness of the situation over there.

Some flipping is absurd, blatant and ugly, but occassionally it does serve a purpose, and it does help some of us out who cant get certain things.....IMO Its verbal Mo that wants this print, not me. . If they really weant this print that much i would suggest buying last years one and framing it under 'gold irridium' coated glass. (although dont quote me for costs). yeah, i caught my mistake with names right away and corrected it.....

Banksy • Flag GOLD, by snakes on Dec 17, 2007 1:30:34 GMT 1, Just out of interest, out of how many of the people who have been to the ghetto how many stayed in Palestine? I may be wrong but my guess is that most people flew out on an Israeli / or Israeli sponsored airline, stayed in Israeli hotels and spent most of their spenders in Israel. So other than buying their one Banksy print of which the proceeds go to Palestinian causes, it seems to me that it is Israel that is benefiting the most from the Ghetto tourists! Ps. I am just an innocent by stander who watches and listens, i support neither side (just incase mossad are monitoring this thread).
Unfortunately Stuey there are many blinkered people in this world who choose to see only what they want to see.
How many would have gone to the Ghetto in Bethlehem if there was not that great big carrot dangled (Banksy prints) to lead them there?
I would say maybe 112 + twenty something odd less unfortunately!

Banksy • Flag GOLD, by verbalkint on Dec 17, 2007 1:56:18 GMT 1, i would think twice about going, only because of the dickhead isreali security forces who like nothing more than taking pot shots at people How about the british aid worker who went there to teach children, Some israeli soldiers started shooting at a bunch of 5 to 10 year olds playing on a dirt mound so the british guy went to get them out of the way and they shot him in the head. Or how about the isreali conscript who was dishonourably discharged because he reported his commanding officer. A 12 year old palasinian girl was returning from school and passed a checkpoint, she had a satchel on and the soldiers commanding officer told him to shoot her, when he refused saying she was an innocent child the officer took his rifle and shot her 17 times. The soldier made a massive incident out of it and told the foreign press, soldier was dishonourably discharged, the officer was discharged but never faced any discipline for what he did.
And lets not forget that hardline palestinians do not like westerners much either. Its all very well and good saying they are nice on the whole, they probably are, but i am realistic enough to know that some of them would see me as their enemy.
On the whole i probably would not go even if i did have the time. Im just being honest
