Better late than never: Ghetto/Bethlehem 07 pics, by guest2 on Jan 22, 2008 9:07:27 GMT 1, These Micallef's are just stunning in my opinion!
I have to disagree, they are the worst I've seen. What is he doing with a can of spray paint. Adding drips into his pictures. He's such a talented artist but to me he looks like he's loosing his direction with those latest offerings.

The third of the 5 is one of the best I have ever seen. The last two are poor, but they were supposedly knocked up in an emergency after his work was held back at customs, so kind of understandable that he was using whatever materials were available to him.
Number three has two trade marks, that great face technique where less is so much more and the Angel. The workings over the top really frame the angel well. Its a f**king great piece of art

Better late than never: Ghetto/Bethlehem 07 pics, by seidbereit on Jan 22, 2008 10:39:50 GMT 1, Brilliant photos, some outstanding pieces! I agree with slowmo the middle one of the five Micallefs is fantastic.
I'd still love to know if the Bloody Gabriel piece from Insect will be done as a print, it's a real beauty.

The one with the text do you mean? Yes thats the best one but imo the spray paint lets it down badly and is def not needed. I heard about the customs thing but micallef only needs some paper and some charcoal. He's too good to have any excuses. He should give up the idea of found materials, throw the spray paint in the bin and work naturally. He's not a street artist. The show at lazinc was just glorious. ! More of that please.

No, sorry I meant the third one down in jasonbraun's post - the one with a heart just above the head and a big splash of pink in the background. The one with the text comes a really close second to that one for me. The others look rushed (but then they were I think). The one with the really thick black drips is awful (IMO of course).
