Thanks for the feedback, the lines for me are what define the contours of the face, it's hard to photograph as it gives the paintings a hard edge, will get the camera out later and try and improve the look of them so they are more like the originals

Thanks Martin, I must admit that I prefer to work in colour although it has been fun to strip that away and just concentrate on technique and brushwork

Ha ha scary eye syndrome? care to elaborate? I have to admit that I'm a big fan of eyes and the expressions that they can show without the rest of the face present, hope I haven't overdone it!

Was just looking at your work again, and realised it has similarities with James Bakers work with the use of the bold blocks of colour I think a joint show between the two of you would work well.

I can see what you mean, have liked James' work for a while now ever since I saw it on Edge Art, he certainly has a fascination with luminous colours!

Thank you gozgoz, I made a conscious decision about 6 months ago to have a change and move away from stencil work for a bit and get back to freehand painting. Really enjoying the freedom that this has brought, I am experimenting with combining freehand painting and stencil work

New Black & White portrait paintings, by Coach on Sept 29, 2009 21:18:10 GMT 1, Oliver - these look really good! Like earlier poster, I prefer your freehand work to the stencils. I prefer the ones involving colour, but these look great too - especially the top one. Great work again imo.

Cheers Coach, over the next fortnight I'm going to be doing a lot of experimenting with combining freehand painting with stencils, I look forward to seeing what you think of it
