Would somebody be able to explain why people hide the edition number when they are selling a print?
I don't really understand the advantages/disadvantages of doing this.
(Apologies if this has been covered in a previous thread)

flippers do it to try to obscure their identities from the print's publisher. some publishers / artists are very vigilant about tracking down serial flippers and preventing them from purchasing more prints.

I don't think unscrupulous people out there should have access to combinations of email address, name/address of owner and print number. Depending on where you sell and what info people can find out about you (i.e. if on Ebay where they may be able to get your details), I think it's best to disclose print numbers only to winning bidders. It opens up potential opportunities for people to commit fraud otherwise imo and there's no need for someone who won't end up buying the print to know the number in any case.
