Lie Back & think of England - Painting Progress, by Rourke on Mar 15, 2009 22:05:29 GMT 1, Alright
Thought I would show this, did it a while ago, still got a few stuff to add to it. Already started the first painting of this, it is the left section, will post photos when I have done it. When the montage is finished, I will be doing a full paint of it all. but I keep thinking of different stuff to add.
I have a few more of these lined up to do, some as full paints and some with part Stencils and Paints.
So would appreciate if you could let us know what you think of this new direction. Cos I absolutely love doing em.
Cheers

Lie Back & think of England - Painting Progress, by G-Man on Mar 16, 2009 7:49:26 GMT 1, LOL I'd nearly forgotten just how good that sketch was BRILLIANT!
As for the piece Rourke, to put my neck out, I have to say I think its not as good as the other stuff I have seen from you recently. I thought your work was becoming deeper and deeper with real atmosphere created without being really crude or obvious in your messages. For me this is too obvious and simplistic. Just my opinion though, sorry man!

Thanks G-man, understand where your coming from mate, and really appreciate your honesty, Cheers. As you have probably seen, I like to do a bit of everything depending on how I feel at the time, this is just an area which I feel needs exploring. I love comedy especially british slapstick, with these type of images it allows me to bring a bit of that out. Will still be doing all the other stuff aswell.
Cheers

Lie Back & think of England - Painting Progress, by thegreatarchitect on Mar 16, 2009 14:51:11 GMT 1, Have always like the simplicity of your portraitures but always thought you had a habit of throwing in the kitchen sink when it really wasn't needed. Take this the right way Rourke, your obsessive, prolific and judging by the movement you,ve made in your work I'm left thinking you grapple to find that something that eludes you by a Nat's cock every time. This piece for me has great promise. the overall composition is well balanced, its only my opinion but the edges are to tight and your in danger of ending up with a claustrophobic in the cupboard, you have the talent so take a risk and puddle the edges merge and blur the boundaries restrict the palette the overall effect of the constable's landscapes marriage to bleak brutalizum works well. but if you throw to much of what you already know when executing the final piece you see that Nats cock again, Look at Ian Francis, Connor Harrington. your the artist though so tell me to F OFF . I cant draw a bath.

Lie Back & think of England - Painting Progress, by thegreatarchitect on Mar 17, 2009 14:43:58 GMT 1, Tend to be a bit blurt and ambiguous sometimes Rourke. My reference to the obsessive, the prolific, and the grapple you have with the work, missing that something by little more than the hair on a chin are the qualities needed to produce great art IMO. i really like this new approach of yours there's a solid balance to the overall composition and the conflict and tension you've created between the rural landscape and the backdrop is a stroke of pure Dualism. But I felt that in order to pull this piece off successfully you should loosen up and try to marry up the figurative elements of the work with overlapping abstraction rather than hold tight to the outlines. With the right colour combination this piece might go from the so what to the WOW If this is your first piece Cant wait to see No 2.

Lie Back & think of England - Painting Progress, by Rourke on Mar 17, 2009 21:21:49 GMT 1, Cheers mate,
Think I get your now, I'll get there in the end, see how it comes out. Was thinking of knocking most of it back then bringing certain areas back with more detail, on the figures and just a little maybe on the flats in the distance, to try and draw you out of the picture. so mainly it will be scetchy as the above photos. Will pm you when I post the pics.

Lie Back & think of England - Painting Progress, by Rourke on Mar 19, 2009 10:03:47 GMT 1, really like parts of this rourke, but feels like to pictures, you have the left hand side that is very pythonesque as mentioned, and on the right you have a real sad feel of the beautiful old mill with the towering high rise etc next to it(saying something about the society/community we live in now) i much prefer the right hand side, love it.. and think it was mentioned above maybe to many ideas on one piece, but really love the photo montage great again mate
Cheers for your honesty Mate
The original idea for the Montages, was to really go OTT or to an extreme with the Full image, so it resembles a collage/montage. But to make it flow as a complete composition aswell. Then to take areas off and do them as seperate pieces and in various ways.
The landscape on the right hand side will be done on its own.
Hope this explains it mate
Thanks
