Cataloging your art work, by Count Jedi on Mar 12, 2009 16:37:35 GMT 1, I was thinking the other day, if I got run over by a bus tomorrow how would my partner know what was what in my collection and where to find the receipt etc.
So what I have done is taken photos of all my prints, canvas and books etc put these in separate A4 plastic sheet along with the receipt and any COA and other info ie e-mails etc (for providence) and put this info in a safe place in a ring binder (just in case someone brakes into the house...)
Whats shocked me is the amount of money I have spent over the last 6 years but also the approx value of the collection at this moment in time.
Also this info will then be handy should I ever sell an item in the future.
What if anything does anyone else do??

What he said - spreadsheet with all the details, and then a ringbinder with COAs and anything else I can think of that is relevant to the art or purchase. A bit anal (and time consuming at the time) but has already come in very useful in my 2 years of collecting...

i don't get it...surely a coa acts as a proof of purchase for insurance purposes. if it is on the back of a framed piece of art and something happens to that said piece then surely you've just lost the most concrete piece of evidence you had. i would have though coas should be kept in a file somewhere else??
agree about the artwork being on the wall though...

Cataloging your art work, by dwight on Mar 12, 2009 20:49:45 GMT 1, I keep a file for every piece in the collection. Sure makes things easy when you're trying to get a letter from the gallery with ones that don't have a good coa. My pow coa's were a snap on my old banksy prints because I kept such good records

Hey, i agree with what you say it is not the best idea. I had not thought about it like that. If they were stolen i would be f**ked. Gonna have to go home and have a think of what to do. That is if there still there!!
