POW SHIT LIST!, by Existencil on Dec 14, 2008 23:14:28 GMT 1, It still amazes me how much people get worked up about it. It's interesting that the same members come back to the 'flipping' related posts all the time. It's like you're all punishing yourselves like little children who aren't allowed sweeties.
Sad.

POW SHIT LIST!, by snausages on Dec 14, 2008 23:14:29 GMT 1, I wonder what effect it will have now that POW is issuing COAs with the prints. Now people won't have to do the obligatory email to Dora to double check and make sure the print is for real. So they probably won't find out about all the prints being flipped now???

POW SHIT LIST!, by micko on Dec 14, 2008 23:16:49 GMT 1, pft: just to clarify, my premise isn't to enact insider-only trading. i hate that idea! where I draw the line is with a retail organization making up the rules as they go along, which I do not support. it's too subjective. if someone gets blacklisted then they're going to find a way around it next time. they're not just going to accept that they can never buy from that establishment again. if anything, they're probably going to try even harder out of pure spite.
this isn't the case but.. If i flew over from NY to the UK, bought a lottery ticket, won VLH, spent a couple of days in London sightseeing then flew home to find my apartment burned to the ground you can bet that i would have a sudden need to raise cash. so why shouldn't I be allowed to do whatever I want, whenever I want and sell my VLH and have the opportunity to buy again from the same source in future?

Oh please. Pow nor the artist intended to hand you a wad of cash for selling a print. The intent is for you to keep and appreciate, well maybe not YOU specifically considering the circumstances but the general you.
Yes, the nature of art is your collection shifts as your tastes change but it's a bit hard to defend someone who doesnt do the right thing and pass it on to someone at primary market 2 days after purchasing it and instead decides to make a buck off it, ahem. whether it be a print or postcards.

I think under those circumstances, knowing POWs stance of flipping, I'd email POW and explain the situation. The people at pow are wonderful and understanding and I am sure would be willing to work something out for you.
However if you emailed them saying, I bought this print 2 days ago and now I want to buy a flat screen TV and have a party with the proceeds they'd tell you where to go.

Stuey or whatever your name is (now) no body likes flippers unless they are selling a cheap print to them what i dislike is after spending hours in the cold and travelling down to POW to then find that some of the people who had won one or both of the prints then chose to sell them asap just to make some cash. we all sell things from time to time but hours/days after you pay for it, is taking the piss and i feel it should go to someone who wants it for what it is a great print and not for $$$

POW SHIT LIST!, by bullet on Dec 15, 2008 0:03:00 GMT 1, im going to put pound on now at 3/1 that this thread goes over 7 pages.
without sounding like a complete moron, i like many others on here have been members for quite sometime and must have seen this gone over about 30 times.
are people ever going to accept that its just one of those things?
its not unique to prints (flipping) it happens with everything from tickets to people at car boot sales buying cheap then taking it back to their stall to sell for more. Its just human nature im afraid.

POW SHIT LIST!, by junkieart on Dec 15, 2008 0:22:59 GMT 1, you guys seem to have short memories, POW no less than 4/5 years ago had a ebay account and encouraged people to flip (maybe to help their new artists profile). I brought quite a few prints back in 03/04 and still have them and still love them. I have however brought one and sold it because I really needed the cash. My old man back then said what the hell are you doing Banksy is a fad, stop wasting your money (ยฃ35 - ยฃ150 at the time). Just wished I hadn't listened to him, I have so many more...so the young ones out there don'y listen what do they know!!! :-) It wasn't until he did Blurs tink tank that I saw the prices go mental. I personally couldn't believe it, then my ยฃ150 artwork became scarery to own (as it does now!). I'm scared to have it in sunlight, take holidays etc etc. Sorry back to the thread, I've loved B's work from the start (very nearly) and have sold one piece as I was very desperate for the cash, so could well be on POW S*it list, Never mind still love the older works I have and initially brought for love not profit. It is annoying but thats life wheres there's money etc etc. Peace JA

POW SHIT LIST!, by havana07 on Dec 15, 2008 0:27:21 GMT 1, ... Interesting thread. Look, I wanted debate about who else was on their s**t list.
I didn't win a Nola, nor VLH. I've never put a Banksy print on ebay before getting it. Nor sold/swapped one within a year of getting a print.
Its up to POW who they want on their s**t list. Nothing I can do about it.
What I can say is that I bought Banksy prints back in the day when Toxic Mary took 3 years to sell out. Those times, people could rock up to POW and buy whatever they wanted in what ever quantities without any fuss or hassle.
Hard to imagine nowadays.
My money was good then. No one talked about 'flipping' or 'Collecting Contemporary' back then. There was no Banksy. info.
Sorry, I can't tell you why I'm on the s**t list, I presume its because Banksy literally blew up and his price rocketed. So everybody wanted a piece of him. Wow! I sold prints, I swapped prints to improve my collection from unsigned to signed and I've kept prints I would never sell, but hey! Thats up to me.
Not my fault that Banksy went from 150 pounds a print to 5000 pounds and more for some prints, but I'm getting the blame for it.
s**t happens.

Yes and ticketmaster bans people the catch buying more than the alloted number of tickets as well as for flipping/scalping them. It's just harder to track those people down as they sell heaps more tickets than POW sells prints.
Banning those who break the rules is also not uncommon.

POW SHIT LIST!, by Happy Shopper on Dec 15, 2008 0:38:18 GMT 1, At the end of the day, I'm sure international buyers (and us all) would prefer to buy the print direct from POW rather than the "helpful" person who bought it purely to sell on, and maybe they would if so many people weren't doing this flipping. Anyone who buys and sells so quickly, and thinks they're doing anyone a favour, is highly mistaken.
