'Very Little Helps?' really?, by Poppy Sunshine on Dec 13, 2008 12:09:03 GMT 1, I emailed one of the sold listings and was told he kept getting bids from auction wreckers and still hasn't sold it. That made me feel a lot better.

'Very Little Helps?' really?, by stender on Dec 13, 2008 12:22:41 GMT 1, F**k Me! it's threads like these that make me ask myself why I come on here? It's either school playground thread, ebay flipper thread or prediction thread.
How many minutes of my life have I wasted reading threads like these.

'Very Little Helps?' really?, by Deleted on Dec 13, 2008 13:03:26 GMT 1, It's interesting to see from "sketch for Essex Road" that the original street piece was (probably) always destined for Essex Road. For those of you that don't know, Essex Road is in Islington (I live just off it) and has two Tesco stores on it, within a little over half a mile of each other. The original street piece is on the side of a Pharmacy that is just about half way between the two Tescos. For me, the position of this piece says a lot. Many of us locals were amazed that Tesco operned a new store so lose to the other and also right next to a Sainsbury's as well. Maybe that's what inspired the piece in the first place.

EVERYTHING IS TH EOPPOSITE WAY ROUND, the flag is on the left side, the two children are on the left side and the other child is on th right.

so does that mean banksy prefers sainsbury ? i dont think it was always destined for essex road but no doubt he was just heading back to his lair in shoreditch and saw a potential canvas ......

'Very Little Helps?' really?, by They call me Stephen on Dec 13, 2008 16:44:27 GMT 1, i doubt this piece was done to represent banksy's horror of tescos opening another store so close to another one on essex road but more the fact that 1 in every 7 (or is it 8) british pounds is spent there.

brun, you may well be right, but if the message of the image is anything to do with the potential for our kids to pledge allegiance to consumer brands like Tesco (or something along those lines), then the location is spot on.
I guess we're unlikely to ever know, but at least the art has got us talking.
(BTW - I landed a Bethlehem in the raffle. I'm obviously pleased with that, but it would have been great to land the Banksy as I walk past the original most days!)
