Thought "Come On" and "Queens Head (sure it's that name)" were good as originals but the weakest two prints at the show. Didn't think they translated well to prints

I'm biased, I got a 'come on' myself. But i think they did translate into prints brilliantly. Fiona said that last time around 'tea drinker' was the last to sell but now its one of his most popular and she said she suspected the same may come true with the 'come on'. Using real photography also makes it a very unusual neate image. I also love the gold halo, Its also quite a thought provoking piece.

I am intrigued by the photographic works... definate departure from anything I had seen from Neate before. How does the Queens Special print look in person? Is there the same look of texture as the 'standard' style prints?

It looks great in person, the texture of the flag is amazing.

The character has the same richness, but because the backgounds are so clean the whole picture has a different depth than the others.

I think this has been posted. On a different point I haven't seen anything of the Neate show in the National Press. This is the most exciting show, possibly in years from a new British artist. I do think this show should be featured.

That's a good point and highlights the frailty of the British Art fraternity to report on anything up and coming from this genre of art.

Totally agree stuey but In fairness it is quite hard for any young up and coming contemporary artist, of whatever genre, to get much press nowadays when they are showing at a commercial gallery. All the mainstream press seems to cover is the heavy weights of the contemporary art scene and then the latest big monet/rembrant/picasso etc exhibition at the tate or royal academy.

The only young artist I can think of this year who got any significant press coverage was Peter Jones for his amazing monkey portraits at Fred London.

The obvious anomaly being Banksy of course. He's probably had more press coverage over the last year than any other living artist I can think of.

Stuey - I'm not really sure what you mean by "this genre"? IMO Adam is very much a contemporary fine artist (who just happens to leave a few pieces on the street).

Exactly Pez, and that's my criticism. If you're employed as an art critic, freelance or otherwise, by any journal that wants to inform its readers of contemporary art, then you should be working at all levels and covering all genres of art in order to enlighten its readership. That they don't do this limits their credibility as genuine art critics. I'm not suggesting we haveBanksy, Neate, Micallef etc on a regular basis, but recognition of a growing movement is slightly overdue.

I agree, they looked like posters and were not the best translation from the originals. I dont think any had been sold untill the others had ran out.
