Polite Notice Re Prints, by master on Oct 8, 2008 22:59:37 GMT 1, Im sure most galleries realize that a certain amount of resale flipping is good for them and the artist, but I guess too much can look bad I would say banning buyers and blocking IP's from buying online would be a dangerous thing to do If I was an Artist involved with a gallery doing that sort of thing I would be very worried about the gallery turning away to many people and damaging the Artists future profile Very tricky balancing act
That is exact point of all of this. So if their mates and first row customers flip, so it should be fine, but when too many, that they don’t know, do the same, well it becomes a problem….
They simply need to find better solution for this and clean up their own house before they go and tell you how dirty is yours.
And yes, I agree that people who buy any sort of art just to make quick buck should not be allowed to do so but galleries also need to get their act together and not be in the business for pure hype and money making. Not saying that BRP are, but you get bad apple every now and then...

Polite Notice Re Prints, by idris on Oct 8, 2008 23:03:51 GMT 1, I think this decision by BRP is the single biggest shockwave to hit this website in a very long time - actually, its bigger than even the credit crunch lol !!
I think BRP should be granted an oscar! Granted this won't stop people from selling on their prints but at least they are saying, look, don't take the fucking piss.
I mean, when was the last time any other gallery made such a pubic service announcement.

Polite Notice Re Prints, by snakes on Oct 8, 2008 23:06:15 GMT 1, Dear Black Rat Press, Have you ever considered selling prints outside of 'office hours' so that those of us with jobs (and working) actually have a chance of buying these pretty prints from you? Thanks, Andrew
Dear Black Rat Press, how many prints of each edition do you actually sell to panambabe? From the pop tart release i recall them selling at least five - but there may have been some that I missed so it could be more (all were very low no.s and ap's).. How do I or others on this forum get to buy multiple copies of each print release like panambabe does so we too are able to sell them on ebay also at vast profits? Many thanks Mojo x ps. your prints are very nice but due to you passing them to on to panambabe and your staff to sell on ebay you have most likely artificially inflated the secondary market prices partly by having reduced the supply of each release and so forth
BRP you aint having any more of my money in the future "i am out".

I know its bad that loads end up on ebay and not in collectors hands, why not let people who have brought from you (like me!) given the heads up? But the head hunting is a little bit wrong? After the calculated PR you give before every event surely YOU bring it on. Please stop its ok for one but not for all!!

i remember it being a certain bonhams auction that did that for him, before that you could buy originals direct.

Polite Notice Re Prints, by aginghippie on Oct 9, 2008 0:22:12 GMT 1, Its always a very tricky balancing act with Supply and Demand and I would worry that fiddling too much could do longterm damage to the Gallery and Artists involved No set rules on whats right or wrong to do, but I would take care. It's very common in the wider art market, try and flip a Hockney print and watch what happens. In the primary art market the galleries try to place work with real collectors with the understanding that it won't be flipped and in exchange the price is below market rate (if it wasn't there would be no flipping).
Done properly it strengthens the artist because it reduces the amount of work on the secondary market which supports the price and builds the artists reputation (which like it or not is measured by the prices their work fetches).
BRP seem to be acting as Nick Walkers primary gallery so it is up to them to control and build the market on his behalf. As such it is very much their concern about what happens to the prints after release.

That release was at 3AM New York time, at least it was during the day for you! A release at something like 8PM in the UK would be fine by me but not great for people in Asia. Some warning would be nice as well so I could go into a corner and furiously f5 without disturbing the rest of the office.
I get the feeling that BRP are experimenting with various approaches at the moment.

Polite Notice Re Prints, by blanksie on Oct 13, 2008 14:22:57 GMT 1, To be fair BRP you do seem to sell bulk prints to any Tom, Dick and Harry so called dealer when they do a 'deal' buying originals, they then go and rinse these out on ebay like there is no tomorrow.
You can't use these double standards, well you can, but everyone will just think your a bunch of dicks if you do.

Polite Notice Re Prints, by Gallery My Arse on Oct 13, 2008 14:59:33 GMT 1, Complete double standards from BRP. All the 4 and 5 star members on this fourm have bought and sold art and have flipped within a month or two of buying it. The so called "online galleries" - don't make me laugh - who have discovered art in the last year or two have all picked up prints from BRP at discount prices on pre-release and then flip them on. Maybe you should stop selling to them as well then? At least the flippers aren't masquerading as an online gallery. It's all a load of bollocks. It should be about quality control and not churning out average DFACE, Nick Walker, Beejoir, Mantis, Hush, TLP prints - I mean, I could go on - to make a fast buck. Sometimes less is more. Faile do it best. Lots of small editions + the odd 150 edition thrown in and no back door dealing.

However i dont think 4 or 5 stars has anything to do with members trading habits...i've never sold a piece, but have traded a couple of things...oh wait i've got 6 stars, perhaps you meant 4 or 5 specifically..
