New Artist - Johan Andersson, by Opus Underground on Jul 14, 2008 11:34:23 GMT 1, I know it's not street art but I think there enough art fans on here to look past that and who would be interested to see his work.
The Bio:
Swedish born Johan Andersson paints portraits that are full of intrigue in their subtle contradictions, which the artist describes as โan ambiguous and awkward underline tensionโ. The naivety of youth is juxtaposed against darkness, and ethereal beauty streaked with corruption - alongside a tentative challenge of political correctness. Andersson hopes that this candid approach to his work will incite โan intimacy between the portrait and the viewer.โ
Johan has been precociously successful, already receiving recognition in widely read publications such as Art World, and has even featured in national newspapers โ including The Times and the Guardian. Exceptionally, in 2007 he became the youngest ever artist to make the top 3 in the esteemed BP Portrait award, which exhibited at the prestigious London and Edinburgh National Portrait Galleries โ experience which places Andersson next to the worlds most upcoming portrait artists, such as fellow BP exhibited Opus artist Josie McCoy. In 2008 he was awarded the Jerwood Contemporary Painters Prize.
The Paintings:
Would love to hear opinions!

New Artist - Johan Andersson, by timba82 on Jul 14, 2008 13:08:58 GMT 1, it doesnt do much for me i'm afraid. the top one isnโt bad - not good at the same time, but that bottom one is too strange for my liking. I absolutely love matt smallโs work and my reason for that is the texture and his building up of the oils and acrylics on the metal/wood whatever he uses. This just looks too flat for me. sorry, i tried to be as constructive as i could. its not bag thats all
