SWEET REVENGE UP @ BRP, by dh on May 14, 2008 21:36:45 GMT 1, I prefer mine, the little study of this canvas. It's a bit of a rip off really especially as there are 3 of them!

SWEET REVENGE UP @ BRP, by artstylee on May 15, 2008 8:12:12 GMT 1, He probably needs to take it easy believing in his own hype and charging these high prices.
Anyways that being said I'm sure those will sell out in no time. Even though they are quite average. Not nearly as good as some of his other work.

Sorry to pick on just your comment mate but had to say that the comments on this thread are generally bollocks!
First of all BRP isn't exactly a 'new' gallery, they haven't decided to put this piece up for sale at ยฃ20k just because of the recent auction success. BRP hosted the Walker 'Vandal' show and 'Sweet Revenge' was available on the night for the same price of ยฃ20k, along with one other canvas 'Repunzel' priced at ยฃ35k it failed to sell. These were the ONLY 2 pieces that didn't sell on the night.
Why didn't they sell? Well IMO (and it would appear in many others as well) the 'Sweet Revenge' canvas was not the best piece there by a long way, it is a massive canvas and the subject matter/content is pretty lacking. I am a huge admirer of Nick's work, but I don't just throw my full backing behind an artist just for loyalty or to keep up the Hype! The artwork on display on the whole was amazing, the 'Empire State' in particular was a complicated and extremeley detailed piece of work, with everything else selling I guess it kind of backs up my comments on quality, had 'Sweet Revenge' been produced at quarter the size and price, it too would have no doubt sold on the night.
I honestly think BRP will struggle to sell this at this price, perhaps it should have gone to auction anonymously and taken it's chances there instead of sitting on a web site for months (perhaps years) unsold and causing detrimental comment!!
Not the best PR move IMO!

SWEET REVENGE UP @ BRP, by dh on May 15, 2008 13:26:37 GMT 1, I was speaking to Mike at brp about Nick's 27.5k to 35k canvas's and he said he could sell them over and over again and he has a waiting list for this work at this level. This shows that this one is weaker but I can see where the price mark comes from.

SWEET REVENGE UP @ BRP, by valium on May 15, 2008 13:27:08 GMT 1, I did hear that BRP was the person who paid the ยฃ45k for the Moona Lisa (?) at the Bonhams auction, call my cynical but if they did that and then sell 3 of Sweet Revenge at ยฃ20k each then the initial ยฃ45k paid out for the auction piece has more than paid for itself!

I raised this point previously.....I guess it could be easy to manipulate the market you just need cash and 2 people - I am in no way saying this is the case with nick walker and BRP as clearly from above comment it wasnโt - but say you had a few quid to spare and lots of Denning say. Would it be worthwhile to get you and a mate and bid up to about ยฃ30K then bang suddenly your collection is worth 10 times the amount....theoretically. Short term view on things but I am sure you get my point.

Care to elaborate on this possibly libelous statement?
