Rare Otick Originals Available!, by Opus Underground on Apr 30, 2008 12:32:13 GMT 1, We have some new original inks from Otick which are perfect for those of you who love your old skool graffiti ;D
Otick is a member of the AAGH and TNS Crews along side the likes of Sickboy and painted at the Balticโs โSpank the Monkeyโ show alongside Banksy, Faile, Swoon, Oz Gemeos, Invader and Obey.
We asked Otick to write us a small history about his career in art. This is what he gave us.
When my childless parents learned that they could not have children, it caused great distress. And so to ease my motherโs pain, my father found a piece of root in the backyard he hacked, chopped and varnished it into the shape of a child. However my mother took the root as her baby and started to pretend that it was real. When the root took life they seemed to have gained a child, but my appetite was much greater than that of a normal child.....
So from as early as I can remember I have had an uncontrollable desire to demolish anything and everything with style. As a young child I would scratch, carve and paint what I later found out I referred to as "my marks" on every surface I encountered. My parents could not control me and as I got older "my marks" got bigger. As I travelled from place to place I left behind a trail of stains that remain like ghosts haunting the wall spaces I decided to infect with "my mark" I have more recently been infiltrating and infesting the walls of the Baltic and Opus Underground shows โKill Your Heroesโ and โThe End is Nighโ and now I have spread my plague through the veins of the Guerrilla art press.

Rare Otick Originals Available!, by Opus Underground on Apr 30, 2008 13:00:32 GMT 1, Interview with Otick from Aerosol Colours ;D
What do you write? Otick, AAGH, TNS
Where are you from? Straight outta Houghton, North East England
When was the first time you picked up a spraycan? Probably when i was about 8 or something but that was only to re-colour my raleigh Burner. To use for the graff sheezy probably around 11 or 12 pretty much started after seeing style wars, and reading subway art, gettin up and all that good stuff. just fucked around with it for years but got really into it around 96, 97. wrote Orbas then like.
When was the last time you picked up a spray can? About an hour ago try to do something every day whether it be a wall, canvas, anything cant seem to put them down.
Your style is very organic where do you draw your influences from? I get influences from all over as far as pieces go I would say people like Smash 137, Dizer (all that GT stuff is sick) Love the french and swiss style too theres too many to mention...... a lot of spanish heads especially Dems (most) of pornostars aswell as Eko TCF, Sickboy and Ponk. and for characters, there is 4 main people in my book they are Sague, Saturno, Toast and Dibone. even so though I try to be as original as i can be...
Has the style/scene in newcastle (North East) played much of a part in the way you developed as an artist? Not at all it is shite up here theres alot of bombing gets done and years ago the scene was dope from peices to tags but nowa days no one wants to further themselves apart from a select few that is... they know who they are. Everybody seems to be on the dirty hands type steez which is fresh but with out burers it can be a very dull world......believe.
Favourite tool of the trade? Has to be Paint in a can with a valve and nozzle. I use all other forms of media from pencil to G4 but paint is the shit and always will be.
Favourite place to paint? Painted loads of places in the last few years....Bristol was great for the atmosphere aswell as the styles, but as in where im from theres a few disused train tunnels which are dope cos it rains loads here so i love them for the weather protection element.......
Shouts: All the AAGH n TNS Familia, Eko, Paris, the Wordplay Magazine lot, Orek and Shonone (a one to watch out for in the future for real......never any good at remembering when I need to so if your not on here let me know when i see you and Ill give ya a pound and a bear Hug peace... Otick one.....
