I am likely in the minority. I like the idea of Tracey Emin, just as I like the idea of Banksy. But I am not drawn to the vast majority of art created by either. Given that I don’t collect art as an investment, and given the prices of the few pieces by each that I do like, neither will be in my collection or displayed on my walls. Even though most artists don’t share the mystique or star power of Emins or Banksy, I can find art that I like much better, and for quite a bit less money. I appreciate what Emins represents to the history of art, and I adore Banksy’s politics, but I don’t have enough money or wall space to collect either.

My favourite of the set is ‘I’m Still Beautiful In My Mind’, a classic Emin self-portrait; the way in which she has drawn the eyes, just a few strokes, is perfectly captured.
